6 JULY 2018 can get lodged in the tiny pores on the skin. One easy way to clean them thoroughly is to soak them in a vinegar wash of one cup white vinegar and eight cups of water. Soak for a few minutes, then gently move around to remove toxins, rinse in colander and dry on paper towels. (Be sure to check out the water after .... yuck!) A few of the commercial products are good, but honestly either filtered water or a vinegar soak or spray is reasonable and effective. The goal is to simplify your cleaning process and follow a few easy steps and tips to success. Overall, I highly recommend buying organic fruits and vegetables whenever possible. Knowing that pesticides and chemicals were not used is helpful, but remember organic does not mean you can skip washing. A good rule of thumb is if you eat the skin (strawberries, blueberries, peppers, zucchini) a thoroughly scrubbing is necessary, and if you don’t eat the skin (avocados, bananas, cantaloupes) you can skip the wash. The “dirty dozen” is an updated list provided by the Environmental Working Group (EWG) that ranks the most popular fruits and vegetables based on pesticide contamination. Strawberries topped this year’s list again for the third year in a row with 22 pesticides and residues found in non-organic varieties. The concern with strawberries is that bacteria CHEMFREE LIFE Fruit and vegetable washing You’ll have to act fast to move into one of the best new homes in Phoenix!
