42 JULY 2018 By Elaina Verhoff The popularity of co-work spaces is on the rise, as remote workers, entrepreneurs and solo practitioners realize the benefits of membership in a shared workspace. Yes, it can be nice to work from home in cozy PJs, or settle in with your laptop at Starbucks, but sometimes human interaction with likeminded individuals can spark creativity, collaboration and connection. Those looking for an alternative to the solitude of working from home or the distractions of working from a coffee shop might want to check out two of the newest co-work spaces in town: THE GRID.WORKS 5227 North 7th Street, Phoenix 602.714.1400 The new kid on the block, The Grid.Works is a new modern co-work space located in the trendy Uptown neighborhood on 7th Street, north of Camelback with a focus on real estate data and technology, financial technology, and related businesses. The 8,000 square-foot space has a modern, industrial feel, with exposed ductwork, sandblasted walls and an open concept design featuring glass-walled offices and conference rooms. Local artists and metal fabricators, including Arcadia’s own Adventus Fabrication, were brought in to create unique elements including a rebar staircase and steampunk kitchen and meeting tables. The space features smart technology throughout, lighting that adjusts based on usage, a custom app for members (available on Apple and Android), storage lockers and advanced Wi- Fi systems. The Grid.Works memberships range from $180 to $1,200 monthly. Options include private offices, reserved and open workstations, and “hotseats” at collaborative tables. Membership includes free high-speed internet, printing and scanning, and use of the open kitchen (including unlimited coffee). Members also have the option to use five themed conference rooms, a fully equipped audio and video production studio, and a 1,600 square-foot multipurpose room/ yoga space that accommodates over 50 people and features glass rollup garage doors, offering a semi-private indoor/ outdoor event space. INDUSTRIOUS SCOTTSDALE 4250 Drinkwater Blvd, Ste. 300, Scottsdale industriousoffice.com/locations/ scottsdale-old-town Located in Old Town Scottsdale, Industrious Scottsdale is the 35th location for the New York-based company. The 20,000 square-foot space has 62 private offices available in various sizes. The cost starts at $360 a month for an open desk, to a private office with a balcony for $6,700 a month. There are three lease options for offices: 30-day, 60-day and 12-month leases. The design of each Industrious office is inspired by its location, and in Scottsdale, this Lincoln Towne Centre space is inspired by the Southwest, with a member’s terrace, open common area, and café. Industrious promises “the hospitality and service of a boutique hotel” with local coffee from Cartel Coffee, and gourmet pastries from Squarz Bakery. Want to explore more than one co- work space before committing? The AZ Coworking Visa lets the “co-work- curious” enjoy 30 days of co-work- hopping among more than 20 local spaces. Think of it as the Classpass of co-work spaces. Try them all and decide which one is the best fit. For more: azcoworkingalliance.com/#works.
