22 APRIL 2018 By Kelly Potts If you live in the Arcadia neighborhood, you’ve probably already heard of Team Taylor. Taylor Paige Cosmas passed away in April of 2010 of SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) at five months old. Most parents can hardly imagine how anyone could resume their life after such a tragedy. But Mark and Katie Cosmas were determined to honor their daughter by creating a way to raise money for SIDS research. Team Taylor began in 2011, as the largest running team at ASU’s Pat’s Run with more than 170 members outfitted in the light blue Team Taylor shirts. $4,000 was raised, which seemed like a lot at the time. But it was only the beginning. The following year, the team raised $25,000. In 2013, Mark, Katie, and their friends and family put together the Arcadia Family Fun Run. Six years later, the event has become a place where families from all over the Valley who have been affected by SIDS can remember and honor their babies. “We’re so proud of how the event has grown and really organically taken on a life of its own,” said Mark. “We’ve got so many great friends, committee members and board members who help us spread the word.” This year’s Team Taylor - Arcadia Family Fun Run 5k takes place through the Arcadia neighborhood on April 22, during the peak of the spring season. The event will take place from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. and will begin at 48 th St. and the Canal. After the race, runners can head to O.H.S.O. where the afterparty will be held. “We’ve brewed a Team Taylor beer at O.H.S.O.,” said Mark. “It will be tapped the day of the event! Also we will have vendors from our store iRun, with shoes that people can try on.” The goal for Team Taylor in 2018 is to have 1,200 participants in this year’s Fun Run and raise $160,000 for SIDS Research Education and Prevention. Each Arcadia Family Fun Run 5k event raises money for leading SIDS researcher Dr. Hannah Kinney of Boston Children’s Hospital and safe sleep education programs. “I have people tell me all the time how this is their favorite event of the year,” said Mark. “People even come home early from spring break for it. It’s just been amazing to see how the community has grabbed onto this.” For more information or to sign up for the race, visit teamtayloraz.com.
