38 MARCH 2018 ARCAD A NEWS By Mallory Gleich Picture lush grapes, beautiful scenery, lavish gardens and a delicious glass of vino. You may think you have to head to California to experience such a scene, but that’s not the case. Elgin, located 60 miles southeast of Tucson, is home to a multitude of wineries and you only have to travel three hours away from the Valley. Arizona is not typically known for its wine industry, but there are actually more than 100 wineries throughout the state. The three major vineyards are in Verde Valley, Sonoita and the Elgin area. These wineries are all supported by the Arizona Wine Growers Association. The best part is that most of the wineries host wine tastings and tours nearly every day. If you’re looking for something to do and fancy a glass of wine, head to Elgin and hit up some of the classic Arizona wineries it has to offer! Each of the vineyards below will also be a part of the 2018 Southeast Arizona Wine Growers Festival happening March 10 and 11 at Kief Joshua Vineyards in Elgin. All of your new favorite wines will be in one place! 39 MARCH 2018 Arc A d A News By Laura Stoddard Food is usually the predominant factor people consider when deciding where to go out to eat. But sometimes, ambiance is just as important, and patio spaces are especially popular this time of year. Fortunately, Arcadia is froth with eateries boasting fantastic patios, which come in especially handy during the beautiful spring weather. Here are a few of our favorites, from playful to hipster to sophisticated. COLD BEER & CHEESEBURGERS Open Mon-Fri: 11 a.m.-12 a.m. Sat-Sun: 10 a.m.-12:00 a.m. 3950 E. Indian School Road 602.314.6221 As you could probably guess from the name, this restaurant’s menu consists predominantly of cold beer (150 varieties) and charbroiled burgers. More of a crowded sports bar indoors, Cold Beer & Cheeseburgers has a spacious outdoor patio that is great for conversing, catching a game or people watching (being situated at the intersection of Indian School Road and 40th Street has its benefits). You’ll find no frills here; just a clean, modern space where you can kick back and enjoy some good eats with family or friends. Want to ratchet things up a notch? Try the beer and wine flight. THE PORCH Mon-Fri: 11 a.m.-2 a.m. Sat-Sun: 10 a.m.-2 a.m. 4017 E. Indian School Road 602.583.7938 Take a trip back in time to the cool, 60s vibe of The Porch, where mid-century modern furnishings, bold pops of color and outdoor activities allow you to set life’s worries aside for a bit. Sidled up against Indian School Road, the green-grassed patio offers comfy seating, easy viewing of multiple TV screens, a cozy fireplace and interactive games like corn hole and giant Jenga. In terms of food, The Porch can’t be pinned down by any one style; you’ll see myriad tasty options on the menu, including tacos, salads, bowls, burgers, fondue and bruschetta. POSTINO Open Mon-Fri: 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Sat: 9 a.m.-12 a.m. | Sun: 9 a.m.-10 p.m. 3939 E. Campbell Ave. 602.852.3939 Postino is the kind of place where you can dress up or dress down. Evenings on the private, tree-lined patio can be quite romantic, prompting a more polished look, while brunch and day-time diners are often dressed for comfort. Postino is an incredibly popular neighborhood haunt, especially for walkers and bikers. The décor is simple, with black tables and chairs, bright yellow accent pieces, and one long, comfy bench running the length of the relatively small space. Garage doors create a seamless transition into the eclectic, trendy interior. This wine bar is known for its bruschetta and wide array of exceptional spirits. THE ATTIC ALE HOUSE Hours vary by day 4247 E. Indian School Road #102 602.955.1967 Part of the fun of eating at The Attic is that it’s a step above the rest—literally. Located on the second floor of the building housing Sacks Sandwiches, this classic gastropub offers an amazing beer selection, award-winning burgers, a fun, upbeat vibe, and a spacious patio with unobstructed views of Camelback Mountain. A large fireplace, flanked by comfy couch and chairs, offers solace on chillier evenings, and simple, no-frills furnishings cover the rest of the spacious patio. THE HENRY Open Mon-Thu: 6:30 a.m.-10 p.m. Fri: 6:30 a.m.-11 p.m. Sat: 8 a.m.-11 p.m. | Sun: 8 a.m.-9 p.m. 4455 E. Camelback Road 602.429.8020 Outdoor dining at The Henry offers a relaxed and sumptuous experience in trendy, upscale surroundings. To the side of the building, and up a few steps, lies the restaurant’s spacious, private patio, consisting of a classic blue and white theme in the furniture and décor.
