26 MARCH 2018 ARCAD A NEWS BUSINESS BRIEFS ARCADIA MEAT MARKET The newly opened neighborhood butcher shop is located on the northwest corner of Indian School Road and 40th Street. It shares a shopping complex with Masterpiece Coffee and Doughnuts, Even Stevens, and others. Run by a second-generation Master Butcher, the market specializes in all-natural meats from farms and ranches all across Arizona. Closed on Tuesday and Wednesday, open on weekends. DOGTOPIA Dogtopia of Arcadia will be opening its doors later this month. The fully-equipped facility will serve as a destination for dog daycare, boarding and spa services. Dogtopia of Arcadia will be located at 3031 E. Indian School Road, on the south side of the road, next to the Filiberto’s and just to the east of QuikTrip. THE CAMP TRANSFORMATION CENTER OF ARCADIA The Camp Transformation Center of Arcadia Opened back in October offering local residents a destination to transform their minds and bodies by creating a community and culture that breeds positive behavior. Run by local entrepreneur Darrin Acevedo and his team, programs at the center consist of group training with dynamic interval workouts, nutrition and supplement plans and highly qualified trainers. The new space is located at 3550 E. Indian School Road. BARRO’S PIZZA The shopping complex on the southwest corner of Indian School Road and 32nd Street seems to never stop expanding. The newest addition is Barro’s Pizza, which opened its 40th store last month, next to the McDonalds and ProteinHouse. “We have wanted to open a location in Arcadia for years,” said Bruce Barro, owner of Barro’s Pizza. “So when the right location became available, we jumped at the chance to bring Grandma Barro’s pizza to this neighborhood!” By Michelle Donati-Grayman Pat Petznick and Beverly Stewart wanted to help nonprofits support Arizona women in need, which inspired them to create Fresh Start Women’s Foundation in 1992. Over the years, they discovered there were several needs going unaddressed and decided to use the foundation to fill those gaps. “It started with a mentoring program that gave us a chance to hear what women were really up against,” said Cathy Kleeman, vice president of development for Fresh Start Women’s Foundation. In 2002, the foundation opened the Jewell McFarland Lewis Women’s Resource Center across from Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix. The center provides a place for the foundation to share its resources with women in need, including classes on financial self- sufficiency, job readiness and self- development. In addition to classes, the foundation offers a variety of other services, from in-house social workers to legal information sessions that educate women about Arizona’s marital and domestic relations laws. Today, the foundation has a staff of 25 and hundreds of volunteers who help more than 5,000 women in the Phoenix metropolitan area every year. Last year, the foundation helped 1,600 women secure employment. “We help women in crisis situations come up with a plan so they can really get to a fresh start,” Kleeman said. The foundation accepts monetary donations year-round, but its signature fundraising event that supports operating costs throughout the year is its annual gala. This year, the 22nd annual event will be held March 10 at The Phoenician, a AAA Five- Diamond resort. The gala includes a cocktail reception, gour met dinner, live entertainment, fashion show, dancing and Founders’ Award presentation, which pays tribute to leaders who have shown commitment to the empowerment of women in the community. This year, Jacquie Dorrance is the recipient of the prestigious award, thanks to her charitable activities in natural resource conservation, education, arts and culture, science, and medical research. “The gala is a celebration of everything Fresh Start has created over more than two decades,” Kleeman said. In addition to its fundraising efforts, Fresh Start is always looking for volunteers and mentors. Roles range from wardrobe assistance to teaching classes at its center. “Every single one of us knows a woman who could use our services,” Kleeman said. “Keep Fresh Start in mind if you know of a woman who has lost her way.” For more: freshstartwomen.org Nonprofit offers Arizona women a fresh start Fresh Start offers group legal information sessions, special topic classes, and document preparation services by a certified legal document preparer.
