46 DECEMBER 2017 ArcAd A News By Elaina Verhoff Let’s face it. Once you hit a certain age or stage in life, New Year’s Eve takes on a whole new meaning. Why bother getting dressed up and braving the late night roads when you can kick off your shoes and enjoy a New Year’s night in? Here are a few fun ways to ring in 2018 from the comfort of your own home. TRIVIA NIGHT Who says you have to head to the local bar for trivia night? With a little planning, you can host your own! This should be particularly enjoyable if you are full of useless information and random facts like “Who was the 39 th president of the United States?” (Jimmy Carter) or “Mork & Mindy was a spinoff of what popular 1970s TV show?” (Happy Days). Apps like Trivia Crack make it easy. START A DINNER TRADITION Traditions are memory-makers, and New Year’s Eve dinner is a great opportunity for a new tradition. Whether it’s clam chowder and Caesar salad, fondue, an enormous fruit, cheese and meat tray, or Tee Pee takeout, find a dinner theme that can stand the test of time and go with it. LIVING ROOM CAMPING Pile your coziest pillows and blankets in the living room and perhaps pitch a tent. Put a fire in the fireplace and roast marshmallows for s’mores. String up twinkle lights and voila – instant glamping. If you have kids, make it a family campout. FAMILY COUNTDOWN Invite your favorite families to join you for an early New Year’s celebration. Depending on the ages of your kids, you could shift the countdown to 10 p.m. instead of midnight, or even make it a noontime New Year’s party. Don’t forget to hit the dollar store for silly glasses, party hats and horns. Let the kids toast the New Year with “kiddie Champagne” (apple cider) or milk and cookies. DANCE PARTY Put on your favorite Pandora station or playlist and dance the night away. Just make sure the kids don’t have their live Instagram videos going, unless you’re truly ready to show off your moves to every teen in town. MOVIE MARATHON If there was ever a time to binge watch your favorite movies or Netflix series, this is it. Get Chinese takeout, put on your bunny slippers and settle in for the night. And don’t forget to stock up on big boxes of movie candy and popcorn! By Mallory Gleich The end of the year signifies many things.
