34 DECEMBER 2017 Arc A d A News By Laura Stoddard Skip the congested parking lot, crowded aisles, and long check-out lines at your local supermarket and instead, power up your computer, click a few buttons, and wait for a knock at your door. This is grocery shopping in the 21st century. The food delivery trend has been around for a decade or so, with companies including Blue Apron and Hello Fresh providing recipes and accompanying ingredients for a limited selection of weekly meals. The convenience is a major plus, but the cost for that convenience might be a little too steep for some. Fortunately, grocery stores have taken that food delivery idea, modified it, and made it possible for shoppers to order exactly what they want, when they want it. The next time you’re in need of the essentials (or the extravagant), consider giving this new trend a try. Here are a few worth considering: WHOLE FOODS MARKET 4701 N. 20th St., Wholefoodsmarket.com Details: Create an account and start using Whole Foods new delivery option which can be delivered in as little as one hour. Your first order over $10 is free to ship, one-hour delivery is $5.99 and two-hour delivery is $3.99. Delivery prices here are a little cheaper, but it balances out, as Whole Foods’ gourmet fare can be on the pricey side. SAFEWAY 4750 E. Indian School Road, Safeway.com Details: The service is called Safeway Online Program and requires a new account set up. Delivery windows are available every day of the week and you can choose a delivery window of one, two, or four-hour increments. The website automatically keeps your shopping history to make future orders easier, and highlights club card daily specials. Shipping on your first order is free, and after that, the delivery prices vary, based on how quickly you want your order. And if you aren’t satisfied with a product you receive, you’ll receive a full credit or refund. COSTCO 4502 E. Oak, Costco.com Details: CostoGrocery is available to current Costco members and delivers same day, next day, or on a date of your choosing. This service is only offered in select areas, but fortunately, Arcadia is one of them. After signing into your Costco account, a list of approximately 2,000 eligible/ available items will appear. There is a delivery fee for any orders less than $35. FRY’S FOOD STORES 4505 E. Thomas Road, Frysfood.com Details: Fry’s program is a bit different than the others on the list. With its program, ClickList, you can order the groceries you’d like and then go to the store, park in a designated parking space and have them bring out your items and load your vehicle. You need to set up an account, but unlike some home delivery services, you don’t pay until you receive your food. There is no fee for this service and they don’t allow tipping of the employees who bring out your groceries. Great option if you’re headed home from work.
