50 OCTOBER 2017 ARCAD A NEWS By Laura Stoddard So, you aren’t an Arizona Cardinals fan (or maybe they’re not your favorite team) but you still want to go out and enjoy some football in a fun, high-energy culinary establishment with other sports lovers. The question is, where in this great expanse of Big Red country, can you go to root on your preferred team without feeling like a sheep wandering into the lion’s den? We did some research and found some neighborhood restaurants and bars that attract certain fan bases. Your team may not be listed at any of these locations, but of course, they assured us that all fans are welcome. HALF MOON WINDY CITY SPORTS GRILL 2121 E. Highland Ave, 85016 Open Daily: 11 a.m.-2 a.m. Fan Following : Chicago Bears, Florida, Alabama A fantastic place to watch sports, thanks to the plethora of TV screens of every size around the restaurant and bar. Expect lively crowds, quick, attentive service, and reasonably priced eats and drinks here. It’s modern, clean, and spacious, and includes a large back room that can be booked for private parties or game viewings. ARCADIA TAVERN 4801 E. Indian School Road, 85018 Mon-Sat: 11 a.m.-10 p.m. & Sun: 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Fan Following : Chicago Bears, Pittsburgh Steelers This is a cozy neighborhood restaurant for diners of all ages. Expect comfort food, like meatloaf and nachos, at decent prices, delivered with a smile. Fans here are very enthusiastic, so prepare for some passionate spectators. A dining area completely separate from the bar is available for those not necessarily interested in the game, but both are spacious. Be aware that parking is very limited here, but free valet is offered. THE ATTIC ALE HOUSE 4247 E. Indian School Road #102, 85018 Days and hours vary Fan Following : Philadelphia Eagles, Green Bay Packers, Oakland Raiders This trendy, perfectly positioned gastropub sits just west of the very up-and-coming corner of Indian School and 44 th Street, just above Sacks sandwich shop. The interior dining space and bar top are relatively small, but the views all around, especially out on the patio, make up for it. Unobstructed views of Camelback Mountain take any brunch, happy hour, or game here to the next level. BREAKROOM BAR AND GRILL 4729 E. McDowell Road, 85008 Open Daily: 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Fan Following : Michigan This is your basic, no-frills neighborhood sports bar. Expect lots of pool tables, dart boards, and TVs. It attracts a more mature crowd, as opposed to families, but still feels welcoming and relaxed. When it gets busy, the bar and small dining area get pretty tight, but there’s plenty of room around the pool tables and other game areas. Expect tons of University of Michigan pride and hearty, inexpensive eats in a place considered to be many people’s favorite dive bar. MAX SPORTS GRILLE 7134 E. Thomas Road, 85251 Open Daily: 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Fan Following: Nebraska, Green Bay Packers A roomy interior and clean decór welcome you to this sports bar and with so many TVs, any seat could be considered the best seat in the house. Inexpensive, hearty pub fare (try the Wisconsin favorite cheese curds), and a fun, welcoming atmosphere make this a great choice for getting your game face and grub on. ZIPPS SPORTS GRILL 3647 E. Indian School Road, 85018 Open Sun-Thu: 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. & Fri-Sat: 11 a.m.-2 a.m. Fan Following: Mixed Bag Zipps is a favorite haunt of sports lovers, thanks to dozens of large TV screens that can be seen from pretty much anywhere in the restaurant. Obviously, a lot of Cardinals fans come here, but you’ll see every logo and color of jersey during football season. They offer inexpensive food and drink options (the wings get high-praise), in an airy, welcoming space.
