Boutique fitness studios have supplanted traditional gym memberships for many. These studios offer a personalized experience ranging from personal training to small group circuit training. They are the fastest growing segment of the fitness industry. It’s hard to keep up with the growing number of studios popping up across the Valley. Here are five classes to consider the next time you’re looking to switch up your fitness routine. SCORPIUS DANCE THEATRE Scorpius Dance Theatre offers an artistic workout with its aerial silks classes. Teens and adults can opt for the beginning/ intermediate class that focuses on basic climbs, knots, spotting and posture, as well as different poses and transition sequences. Classes are taught by the studio’s professional performers and are designed to build strength, improve balance and increase flexibility. The workout is suitable for all fitness levels, and is great for anyone who is up for a challenge and wants to learn something new. JABZ BOXING Jabz workouts are specifically designed for women, combining boxing, agility and core work and strength training. The workouts change daily and exercises can be modified to meet the needs of clients, from those who have never worked out before to elite athletes. Classes are limited to 16 clients, so women get the individual attention they need from certified trainers, while throwing more than 1,000 punches during each 45-minute workout. The studio prides itself on not only being a gym, but a community of women empowering other women. New clients can sign up online for a free week or pay $34 for a month of unlimited classes. Visit: abzboxing.com. SIMPLY CARDIO This super-efficient studio offers circuit training that packs cardio, core and strength training exercises into a 30-minute class. Each workout is led by a certified coach who guides, modifies and motivates clients throughout the compact class. Unlike most studios, there are no set class times at Simply Cardio. Clients can walk in anytime during business hours and complete the 30-minute circuit. The studio also offers Simply Stretch, a one-on-one stretching session that promises to improve posture, flexibility, muscle soreness and muscle recovery. Memberships start at $59 per month. MACCABEES KRAV MAGA Developed for the Isreali defense forces, Krav Maga is a hybrid tactical self-defense system that features techniques from boxing, wrestling, aikido, judo and karate. It has real world applications, as it teaches students to defend themselves against weapons and multiple attackers. Krav Maga requires no prior martial arts training and promises students a total body workout that includes cardio and strength training. A free trial class is available for new clients. THE BAR METHOD The barre technique is a combination of isometrics, interval training, dance conditioning and physical therapy that reshapes muscles, improves posture and builds confidence. The Bar Method offers classes for all fitness levels, from those new to working out to competitive athletes. The studio features a fully stocked locker room and childcare during select classes to accommodate parents and busy clients heading to and from work.
