The term implies bloodlines, but for three Arcadia High School seniors, the word represents a lifelong friendship that has helped define them as men and galvanized a basketball program. They were just three kids at Christ Lutheran School at the turn of the decade. Today, Max Moses, Matt Burton and Reed Richardson are set to go their separate ways after spending the past seven years developing life-changing bonds. Now in their final semester at Arcadia High, the trio began playing basketball together in 2011, but were good friends since long before then. “We’ve been going to class together, playing ball together and hanging out with one another for the last six or seven years. I’ve known these guys my whole life,” Moses said. “We connected as a unit at a very young age,” Burton explained. “When we came to Arcadia, it wasn’t really a team here, it was just a bunch of kids playing basketball. We basically became one family by working together and reminding each other how important this place is to us.” Both Moses and Burton have been a part of the varsity team for all four seasons of their respective careers, while Richardson was on varsity for the previous three years or seasons. They will have played in a combined 255 games by the end of this regular season. “When you spend as much time together as we have, you begin to understand each other and look out for each other, on and off the court,” Richardson said. Titans head coach Stephen Danford helped guide the team to a state runner-up finish last season. He called the trio “quality young men” and said they have changed what it means to be an Arcadia Titan. “These three players plus a couple others have helped re-establish Arcadia basketball back into the community,” said Danford, who has been head coach since 2012. “These three seniors have taken that commitment very seriously. They watch for their teammates, treat the younger players in the program like little brothers, showing them the Titan way of doing things. “I have learned that to be successful as a basketball team, you have to treat each other like a family. With these guys, it’s always felt like family,” Moses added. The trio is hoping to leave one more lasting mark on the school as they finish out their senior season. Moses is currently leading the team in scoring with over 18 points per game, while Richardson and Burton are averaging 8.7 and 6.2 points per game, respectively.
