Chanukah Carnival 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Congregation Beth Israel, 10460 N. 56th St., Scottsdale. The 7th Annual Chanukah Carnival is opened to the public and to all age groups. Tasty traditional Chanukah treats like latkes, cotton candy, popcorn and sufganiyot will be available and entertainment includes train rides, a rock-climbing wall, a bounce house and a petting zoo. Temple rabbis and preschool teachers will be courageously sitting in the dunk tank as well. This event is hosted by the Congregation Beth Israel’s Chanen Preschool. Join featured artists Jean Prescott, Chris Isaacs, Yvonne Hollenbeck and Brenn Hill for the 28th annual Cowboy Christmas Poetry celebration. On Friday, there will be a cowboy reception at the Western Museum where you’ll get a little taste of Saturday’s event, which includes cocktails, food and music. If not, the 34th annual Boat Parade of Lights is something you won’t want to miss. Over 50 boats will be decorated in their holiday best and will cruise from Thompson Bay to Windsor Beach and back. Start the day by browsing through local vendor and craft booths. The parade starts at 3, with a “cartoon Christmas” as this year’s theme. Then grab a bite to eat, listen to live local entertainment, hit up the kids zone, say hi to Santa, and the Pioneer Cemetery. Ghost Hunter Dennis Quesenberry will even set up his equipment in the oldest room of the Sanguinetti House, so you might come in personal contact with some ghouls and ghosts. James Acker has been a part of Prescott’s history dating all the way back to the 1900s. When he died in 1955, he left parcels of land to Prescott City and asked that they be dedicated to parks and music programs for children. In the spirit of Mr. Acker, Prescott hosts Acker Music night, where downtown businesses open their doors to music of every genre.
