Appointments, referrals and second opinions: 480-882-5566 Spine encyclopedia at SpineGroupArizona.com By Ian Kraft Walking into the gates of Jim Baker Field at Arcadia High School on a Friday night in September, the first thing anyone sees is a group of students, coordinating in unison like one gigantic organism, exuding red and blue pride. This group of rowdy Titans call themselves Chaos Corner. Led by eight student representatives, Chaos Corner is responsible for athletic promotion and spreading Titan spirit throughout the school. One of the leaders, Jake Richardson, is the student body treasurer and said it is an honor to be a part of Chaos Corner. Richardson said he, as well as the other leaders, have worked extremely hard to continue the Titan tradition of making every football game a memorable experience for the students and parents. Matthew Richardson, the franchised restaurant operator of the Chick-fil-A located at 44 St. and Indian School Road, approached Jake and the rest of the Corner’s leadership this summer with an opportunity to partner up and sponsor Chaos Corner. After several meetings between the Richardsons – who are unrelated – and Booster Club secretary Kathy Sandler, who helped the boys with the business side of the agreement, the parties agreed to have Chaos Corner sponsored by the local fast- food restaurant. Titan home games will now include cowbell giveaways, where numbered cowbells are passed out to each student with a prize awarded to the winning bell’s number; a T-shirt cannon used to blast AHS Titan T-shirts with discount Chick-fil-A cards included; and the Kickin’ for Chicken promotion, where a student from the Corner will have the opportunity to win a year’s worth of free Chick-fil-A if they make a 15-yard field goal during halftime. Matthew Richardson moved to the Arcadia area only four months before the agreement was reached, but upon arrival he instantly understood how giving the neighborhood is. “My family and I lived in the Anthem area for some time, but we wanted to move closer to Phoenix,” Matthew said. “We came here for the ‘city,’ but this is the first time we have felt like a part of a neighborhood.” “Having the opportunity to work with Jake and the rest of the boys at Arcadia has been a cool team effort to try and give back. That, to me, is what Arcadia is all about,” Matthew said. Matthew not only has one child currently attending AHS, but two younger children in Arcadia schools. “As a personal resident of Arcadia, and as a father of three boys in the Arcadia school system, the business gives our family an avenue to give back to the people who take care of our family,” Matthew said. As much as this agreement was about getting more students to visit his Chick- fil-A, he explained that his biggest motive was to connect with as many citizens of Arcadia as possible. “Our business motto is ‘people come before profit.’ That is the joy of the business that I run. As much as it is about promoting my business, it’s truly about connecting with the community and helping the kids. My family is truly blessed to be a part of the Arcadia community,” Matthew said. Kathy Sandler, the mother of Titan senior wide receiver Nick Sandler, said she was thrilled to see how proactive the boys of Chaos Corner were in getting the sponsorship deal done. “It is very fulfilling for me as a mom to see these kids take an opportunity and run with it. For me to help facilitate this was a great opportunity for myself, nonetheless for the kids, and I am just glad I could help them. Everyone is truly excited for the future with Matthew and AHS football,” Kathy said. Jake Richardson said of Kathy, “Without Mrs. Sandler, none of this could have been possible. She organized the first meeting with Matthew Richardson and she is like a mom to us.” AHS Chaos Corner partners with local Chick-fil-A Arcadia High School’s student led spirit team works to make every football game a memorable experience.
