Something about it seemed so hopeful. If you are a regular reader of this column, you know by now that my emotions lean toward the sentimental. This little memory proves that I’ve been this way since the beginning. Growing up, I had a snow globe that played the tune. Quite often I would wind the knob on the bottom of the globe and something about that sweet melody told me to go after what I wanted. It reminded me that I could accomplish whatever inspired my soul. Becoming the managing editor of Arcadia News three years ago was my dream job. When I was 16 years old I wrote a “Things to do before I die” list on a scrap of paper and folded it into my wallet. To me, the three most important things on that list were: falling in love forever, becoming a mom, and publishing an article in a newspaper or magazine. Well, my friends, dreams really do come true. And then some. As you may know, I have the handsome husband, two bundles of joy and in the last five years I’ve published over 300 articles for this award-winning newspaper. In 2014 I was named a Rising Star in journalism by the Association of Free Community Papers and in 2015 I helped Arcadia News win two national awards in General Excellence. I’ve helped over 15 writers and budding journalists learn the craft, just as my mentors once did for me. And I have loved every minute of this beautiful ride. But when dreams are satisfied, when they really truly come true…I’m a firm believer that we must build new dreams. We must continue to grow. It is with a heavy heart that I tell you, the kind and loyal readers of this paper that I love, that this month marks my last as the managing editor of Arcadia News . It wasn’t an easy decision. But the one I know is right. This isn’t a goodbye. I will still contribute articles. But I will no longer be at the helm of this beloved community newspaper. It is someone else’s turn to pour their heart into the paper you love to read. I thank you, our readers, for supporting not only this paper, but also me! Over the years I’ve received handwritten notes, emails of encouragement, even a beautiful bouquet of flowers when I wrote about the passing of my grandmother. You have been my cheerleaders, my story pitch team and most importantly, my friends. These past three years have been the greatest time of my life. I will see you in the neighborhood!
