Page 12 September 2016 By Mallory Gleich Back for its third year, the Cocktails and Couture gala is shaping up to be the best one yet. Inspired by the Colleen’s Dream Foundation, Cocktails and Couture is a night filled with fashion, fun and bringing awareness to ovarian cancer. Colleen Drury passed away in February 2013 from ovarian cancer. Her daughter, Nicole, and Nicole’s husband started Colleen’s Dream with Colleen to raise awareness for the disease. Since Colleen passed, Nicole and her sister have continued Colleen’s Dream. September is ovarian cancer awareness month, so it is only fitting that Cocktails and Couture be held then. The gala is set for September 24. “This event has kind of a unique feel, because it’s one part house party, one part club/lounge, one part food and cocktails, and then we have the couture and fashion part,” said Nicole. The owners of Arizona Cocktail Week and the cocktail catering company, Rattle and Rum, will cater the event with help from some of the Valley’s leading bartenders. Carly Gilleland, who produces videos and photos for all of Colleen’s Dream events and who also grew up with the family, says that each event is well thought out and different from the last. “They do such a great job educating and spreading awareness of ovarian cancer and provide a platform of support for those who are affected. And they are so fun ,” said Carly. Carly remembers parties that Colleen would host when she was in high school. “Colleen would host these incredible parties at her house – live band, lots of people, food, drinks, dancing. Colleen certainly lives on through the events that the foundation organizes,” she said. Along with a night of signature food and drinks, there will also be a fashion show. The foundation has a partnership with Saks Fifth Avenue, who will provide gift bags for the event, as well as Ford models showcasing the latest fashions for men and women. Robert Black’s vintage collection of Mad Men fashion will also be on display. “We never knew about ovarian cancer, and so along with the fun and fashion, to focus on the signs and symptoms of the disease is really, really important,” said Nicole. The event will be held on September 24 and is for those 21 and older. Tickets are $150. The event will be held at a home nestled into the north side of Mummy Mountain in Paradise Valley.
