MONDAY, AUGUST 1 The World of Giant Insects 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Arizona Science Center, 600 E. Washington St., Phoenix. It truly is a bug’s life at the Arizona Science Center. The latest exhibit, The World of Giant Insects, transports guests to a whole different type of life cycle…one where the bugs are bigger than the people. Watch as a locust springs to flight or a caterpillar crunches on leaves before turning into a butterfly. Tickets are $6 plus the price of museum admission, which is $18 for adults and $13 for kids. Beat the August heat and take a stroll in the night with DBG’s Flashlight Tours. This event is for all ages and allows participants to visit – at their own pace – the many discovery stations. Some of the discovery stations include bat, owl and lizard stations as well as craft and activity areas. Please bring your own flashlight. Admission is $22 for adults and $10 for kids. This event’s theme is “wanderlust.” The cost is $10 and guests get to pick their pottery, then learn the tips and tricks to create perfect lines and mountain designs. Second St., Scottsdale. The Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts summer concert series is back and this Friday they’re showcasing local artist Robbie Roberson and his band in the comfortable Virginia G. Piper Theater. Roberson’s music ranges from John Lennon to Phillip Glass with cool acoustic vocals. The concert starts at 8 p.m., with a happy hour beforehand where guests can enjoy drinks and small bites.
