But what do you do when you have hit all the popular tourist spots? 1. Take a boat ride to Coronado Island. Yes, you can get there by car but why not take the ferry? Catch the ferry downtown and spend the day exploring Coronado. 2. Find a few whales. San Diego is in a prime position to catch the annual migration of all kinds of whales just off the coast. There are several different tours that can get an up-close look. 3. Continue your mammal tour, and head to La Jolla to see the seals and sea lions lounging around. 4. Enjoy Balboa Park, the Central Park of San Diego. Take in 1,200 acres of hiking trails, fountains, performing art venues, gardens and museums to explore right in the middle of the city. 5. Want to have a true sea experience? Snorkel in La Jolla! Check out the underwater world in La Jolla and swim with some curious sea lions, then grab a snorkel and take a lap around the cove.
