There are months when we make incredibly intricate plans for a particular theme or photo- styling idea, which can work amazingly well or leave us empty-handed and stranded for a last-minute replacement. There are also times midmonth when we are still scratching our heads, hoping to dream up an eye-catching visual that will be placed in our Top 10 Best-Ever Arcadia News Covers. With this type of self-imposed pressure, it’s no wonder why we’re pulling our hair out in frustration and drinking enough extra large cold-brew coffees to make us shake from over-caffeinating ourselves. Yes, our publisher Greg Bruns and I definitely have a cold-brew coffee problem, but that’s an entirely different story for an entirely different month. This month, our Phoenician Trapeze class cover photo is one of my absolute favorites. When I saw it, I immediately knew it was a home run. “This is it!!!” I screamed with excitement to our publisher. Over the years, Greg has grown to understand my enthusiasm. He knows I get pretty passionate about almost everything, so he waits to hear (or see) what I’m really talking about before jumping on my high- speed excitable bandwagon. After shouting my delight all through the office, I took the time to tell Greg all the reasons I thought it was the best photo I’ve ever seen. (See, I told you...passionate and enthusiastic.) I gave him a list of details, which I’m pretty sure he stopped listening to after a few minutes because I was blabbing at 100 words a minute. My nickname was once Motor Mouth. And believe me, I live up to that name regularly. This photo was definitely a keeper. Partly because the image is fun, unique and because the subject has an authentic smile of joy that comes through, particularly in her eyes. This photo also puts the best thing about our city on display, showing Phoenix in all her springtime glory. The other reason, however, for my extreme fondness of this high-f lying photo, is because of the article that goes along with it. Read our columnist Michelle Donati- Grayman’s story on page 24 for an inside look at her recent trapeze class. I hope you enjoy it as much as we did. In addition to Michelle’s article, we have a variety of other stories for you that show off our neighborhood’s community, kids and the abundance of outdoor activities that can keep you busy throughout April.
