Page 29 April 2016 By Kelly Potts Having choices of dog friendly patios isn’t a huge deal…until you want to bring a dog somewhere. And, going to the same few restaurants for happy hour or a family meal quickly becomes repetitive. Thankfully, Arizona has no shortage of sunshine and amazing restaurants with dog friendly patios. Next time you want to bask in the beautiful weather (before it gets too warm!) grab Fido and head to a new local favorite across the Valley. Some of these locations will serve your pooch specialty meals or treats while you dine, too. And all will offer water bowls. Dining with your dog should be an enjoyable experience, unless, of course, Fido spends the entire meal trying to steal food, whining or barking at other guests. Wear them out – Get rid of all the pent up energy with a long game of fetch or a walk before dinner. This way, your dog will be ready to plop down and rest during the adventure out. Bring distractions – Just like two-legged children, bring things to distract Fido. Chew toys and tough-to-chew treats can be fantastic ways to keep your dog distracted throughout the meal and elicit good behavior. Follow the golden rule – make sure they are leashed – Even if Fido is well behaved, you never know when a surprising incident might set him off of if you’ll have to pull him out of harm’s way. Keep Fido leashed to protect not only others in the restaurant, but your dog as well. Dining with your best friend on a patio near you PLACES WE LOVE
