THE EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION AT THE DAVID WRIGHT HOUSE T he David Wright House is proud to announce the first of a series of educa- tional opportunities for learners of all ages to explore the masterpiece in our own backyard! A visit to the home Frank Lloyd Wright designed for his son immediately invites the observer to think about the geometric paerns and connec- tions which are the foundation of all of Wright’s work. In partnership with the Rodel Foundation of Arizona* we will present students in grades 2-8 with an opportunity to explore the house and grounds designed by the man Philip Johnson called “the greatest architect of the nineteenth-century.” Throughout the experience, students will examine the basic design principles of Wright’s work as they look, touch, measure, compute, design, build and enjoy learning math disguised as fun! The more meaningful celebration for them was the date they met…a date that chose them. I liked that. This month, it’s been 10 years since the day I met Michael. To celebrate, I found the stories we each wrote and read at our wedding – his side of the story and mine. The day I met you: According to Kindra % \ % at least not for me. For me, love takes longer – like a week or two. % % _ % walked into the job interview. He was sitting at his desk and only slightly nodded his head when introduced. If it had been in that moment. But instead, I thought to myself, “Well, that will make the job more interesting.” Much to my irritation however, he seemed to have no interest in me. The guy wouldn’t so much as talk to % nothing more to do than to resort to “getting to know him.” I got to know how smart he % his work, his family, and his character. I got to know that he was a factory of good ideas. * % ` to truly meet your match. I got to know all of these things...in a few short weeks. Unfortunately, it took Michael a bit longer. For four looong months I did everything in % him, to no avail. And then, on one Arizona July night, after % _ { kissed me. And in that moment, I saw love The day I met you: According to Michael % sight, at least not for me. For me, love takes longer. For me, love takes a lot of time, evaluation and analysis. I remember when I first saw Kindra. She walked into the job interview in a tornado of % from my desk. It only took that moment to know her game. I would have to make this girl sweat if I % to have no interest in her. I didn’t even talk to her for the first few days at the office, much less quite skillful. % nothing more to do than to “get to know her.” I got to know that she left a trail of love in her wake. I got her storytelling, her stagecraft, her family. I got to know she was the brilliant communicator % * % ` it was to truly meet your match. I got to know these things all the while she never knew what I was really thinking...all in a few short months. It took me four months to act, though I had felt this way since nearly the moment I first saw her. One Arizona July night I finally did what I had been waiting so long to do...I kissed her for the first time. The proposal: According to Kindra Because I had known I would marry Michael just moments after meeting him, waiting for him to ask me to do so was torture. He told | never told me which Saturday. Every Saturday % it was indeed Saturday...again. On Saturday, March 15, Michael and I were _ suggested, before I could even think what day it was, that we run on the beach. A run we would often take, nothing new or out of the ordinary. I tied on my shoes and bounded down the shoreline. Strangely, Michael was lagging. < < * bent down – on one knee – to get it out, I was Saturday. Much less the Saturday I’d been waiting for. There he was, knee in the sand and a ring % said yes. The proposal: According to Michael When my grandfather was rebuilding a beautiful sailboat, } “Monday!” Every week the same tell them “It’ll be done Monday!” I ~ % Saturday. Every Saturday she would Saturday and I would tell her it was only a week until Saturday. This went on for months. On Saturday, March 15, Kindra and I were in our favorite beach % Kindra’s intuition would sniff me out so I immediately suggested we run on the beach. A run we would often take, nothing new or out of the ordinary. I tied on my shoes and sauntered down the shoreline. Kindra was charging way ahead of me. As she sailed ahead, I slowed ~ ` % in my shoe to buy me some time while I % %\ forget that look on her face when she realized what day it was. / ' 2 GIRL NEXT DOOR When Michael and Kindra met 10 years ago this month, they realized they had / 4 %
