Page 38 March 2016 By Riley Kissee Arizona is known for its red rock and cactus-lined desert landscape. However, if you venture about a mile east of the 101 on Thomas Road, you’ll discover a lush, hidden oasis known as Singh Farms. Upon arrival, guests are guided down a path that will lead them under a canopy of trees. All along the path grow bountiful crops, which once harvested, are sold every Saturday at their farmers market located at the center of the property. What’s more, if you happen to dine at any of the local, independent restaurants in the Phoenix area, it’s likely that you’ve eaten produce from Singh Farms. Their produce is sold directly to prominent local chefs that seek quality ingredients for their cuisine. If you’re interested in visiting the farm for the first time, or want a truly uncommon dining experience, Singh Farms will be partnering with local chefs for a one-night- only dining event that will be a new addition to the annual Devoured Culinary Classic. On Wednesday, March 2, the chef squad known as the Arizona Seven will reunite to deliver a seven-course feast that they are dubbing The Seven Chef Singh Along. On their last excursion, this ensemble of chefs wowed diners at the prestigious James Beard House in New York City. The group is comprised of Cullen Campbell (Crudo, Okra Cookhouse & Cocktails), Kelly Fletcher (El Chorro), Josh Hebert (Posh Improvisational Cuisine), Scott Holmes (Little Miss BBQ), Stephen Jones (the larder + the delta), Bernie Kantak (The Gladly, Citizen Public House) and Gio Osso (Virtù Honest Craft, Nico). “We are trying to have fun together and boost enthusiasm for eating in the city,” Campbell said. “We did the first one and everyone seems to enjoy it. It’s a lot of fun and we really want to showcase all of the independent restaurants.” Starting at 5:30 p.m., guests are welcomed with an hour-long cocktail reception. The dinner will truly be a farm-to-table experience, as each chef will create a single dish that employs many ingredients directly from Singh Farms. Mangalitsa Pork from AZ Fine Swine will also be featured, along with wine pairings from a selection of Arizona vineyards that include Dos Cabezas WineWorks, Sand Reckoner Vineyards, Caduceus Cellars and Callaghan Vineyards. “It’s pretty perfect for us to have the event at Singh Farms, because there is so much equipment already there,” Campbell said. “We’re going to use the clay, wood-fired oven, a couple grills and a big wood-fired grill.” Tickets are $160 per person and seating is limited, so be sure to secure tickets in advance.
