The (hopefully) last cold days have passed and it’s time to trade in the hoodies for those T-shirts and grab the sunblock. Spring has arrived. In all honesty, winter is kind to us because we don’t get trapped inside with piles of snow. It’s nice to be able to go outside and feel the warm sun on our faces. However, we did go from a very hot summer into one of the colder winters we’ve had in recent years, so in case you’ve forgotten how to bask in the wonder that is an Arizona spring, I have some suggestions for you. 5. Throw a barbecue While most of the country is busy shoveling snow and staying indoors, we have the opportunity to eat and relax outside. So why not invite some friends over for a nice barbecue, and maybe a dip in the pool as long as the water isn’t too cold! Spring break is right around the corner and it’s always nice to have a get-together with friends, especially if there is good food! 4. Scottsdale Arts Festival If you enjoy art in any capacity, this is the place to be. There are over 100 artists on display at this weekend-long event, along with live music and delicious food from local food trucks. Single-day admission is $5 for students and $10 for adults, with free admission for children under 12. This is a great way to celebrate local art and enjoy a nice day outside with family or friends! The festival will run March 11-13, just in time for spring break! 3. Golfing I have never been a golfer, but there is something about the warm spring air that makes me want to break out the clubs and head over to the driving range. I love trying new sports and being active, so golf is the perfect activity, and it can be affordable. Coronado Golf Course on Miller Road has a driving range open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and with lights around the range, it’s hard to pass up an hour driving golf balls in the cool evening weather. If you aren’t into golf, but you still want some active fun, hit up the batting cages. You don’t have to be good, and most cages offer slow pitch softball, so grab a bat and some friends and enjoy yourselves at the cages! 2. See the snow If you don’t like my advice so far, and you’re trying to live out the last of the cold season, you still have time to head north to Snowbowl or Sunrise to shred the slopes one last time. Snowbowl in Flagstaff charges $59 for all-day lift tickets for teens, and $69 for adults. Sunrise offers tickets for $56 for teens, and $66 for adults. Make sure to watch the weather patterns heading into the second half of the month, and call ahead to check their availability. 1. Spring training This has been a spring break must for me for as long as I can remember. Arizona is one of only two states in the country that host this annual event, and Arcadia is right in the middle of the action. With teams like the Chicago Cubs, Colorado Rockies, San Francisco Giants, Anaheim Angels, and of course the Arizona Diamondbacks within a short drive from Arcadia, there is nothing standing in your way from enjoying a hot dog, a nice spring day, and a great game of baseball in the desert. Depending on the team, tickets range anywhere from $8 to $75. The lawn seats are my favorite, and they happen to be the cheapest, just don’t forget your sunblock! Whether you’re watching a game or hosting your own get-together, there are plenty of fun things to do in the area this time of the year. Get outside, grab something to eat, and enjoy the beautiful weather. )*' Activities for an Arizona Spring
