Preschool through Grade 8 Accredited by Western Catholic Education Association (WCEA) By Michelle Donati-Grayman It’s the most wonderful time of the year! This month, holiday festivities abound across the Valley, but one celebration sparkles brighter than the rest. The Fairmont Scottsdale Princess started its Christmas at the Princess festival in 2010. Over the years, the property has added features that transform the resort into an enchanting winter wonderland where families create holiday traditions and lasting memories. Festivities began on November 19 with the property’s annual tree-lighting ceremony. In addition to lighting the four-story Christmas tree, the ceremony also marks the opening of the resort’s ice skating rink, where skaters experience magical rink-side snowfalls each night. New to the AAA Five Diamond resort’s festival this year are evening character appearances from North Pole visitors including Christmas Princess Noel, Peppermint the Penguin and Selfie Elfie. The property also has added a petting zoo, featuring sheep, goats, chickens, ducks and an alpaca. Near the petting zoo is S’mores Land, another new feature that includes a Christmas campfire area with seven fire pits and a Christmas carousel. The resort will also host a breakfast with Santa and friends on December 19 in the Princess Ballroom. Guests can also enjoy features from years past, including: Lagoon Lights Enjoy viewing more than 2.8 million LED lights as you ride the Princess Express Train through the resort’s lagoons. Displays include a candy cane forest, a fishing Santa, Nessie the Loch Ness Monster, a 3-D whale, and a 17-foot-long infinity tunnel. Musical Tree and Menorah Lighting During the day, the resort’s stunning Christmas tree is decorated with glistening snowflakes and a five-foot snowflake tree topper. At night, the tree’s 70,000 LED lights twinkle and dance to more than a dozen holiday songs. Nightly menorah lighting with latkes and applesauce takes place in the resort lobby through Hanukkah. Nativity Garden Light Show During the holidays, the resort’s Fragrance Garden becomes the Nativity Garden, featuring a 10-minute program with a narrated light and music show. Photos with Santa in Santa’s Workshop Visit Santa’s Workshop to have photos taken with Kris Kringle himself at La Hacienda Plaza. Photos are $10 and are available for immediate pickup. Rink Side Fire Pit Rentals Desert Ice Skating Rink features luxury rink-side fire pit table rentals complete with s’mores, cocktails, hot cocoa and blankets. The festival runs through January 3. Events and activities are open to the public. Light shows, the petting zoo, rides on the Princess Express Train and the Christmas Carousel are complimentary. The entrance fee and parking for non-hotel guests is $30 for self-parking or $40 for valet after 4 p.m. Valet and admission are complimentary when dining at any of the resort restaurants with a $75 spend. Many nights throughout the festival are Value Nights with half off the self-parking and entrance fee. For a specific list of dates or more information on the festival, visit scottsdaleprincess.com. Christmas at the Princess The four-story Christmas tree at the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess is equipped with 70,000 LED lights that twinkle and dance to more than 14 holiday songs. Experience rink-side snowfalls each night at the resort’s 6,000-square-foot ice skating rink. Page 8 December 2015
