Redefining Swim Lessons since 1998 Page 62 December 2015 By Ava Lasiewski The Hopi Dad’s Club has funded a program for the students of Hopi Elementary that allows them to learn foreign languages through Rosetta Stone. This program will be offered to students in second through fifth grade. According to the program’s flyer, this program was started because the dads “… hope to implement incentives to encourage students to continually advance throughout the year.” According to the school’s website, “Students will be using Chrome Books (donated by the Hopi Dad’s Club) during the Specials Time to complete various units and levels. As students complete levels in each unit, they will be given rewards for their progress.” The school recommends that the students use Rosetta Stone at home as well, since it can be accessed through any computer, tablet By Josh Cutlip Fall sports have come to an end at Arcadia High School; here are some highlights you may have missed. SWIM TEAM The girls team placed fifth at the state m eet, and the boys team placed seventh. It was, as Coach Erica McClurg put it, “Pretty darn good, considering we only had four girls and four boys scoring points.” The girls broke two school records in two different relays, and the boys broke one relay record for the school. Savanna Carlson was state champion in the 200 individual medley and third in the 100 butterfly. Matti Harrison placed second in the 100-yard backstroke and third in the 200-yard freestyle. Clay Stoddard placed fourth and 10th in his events for the boys, and Antonio Ramirez placed second in both of his two events. Jack Ehmann was top 16 in his events, Sydney Carlson was top eight in both of her events, and Sam Milewski was ninth and 10th in her events. VOLLEYBALL The girls volleyball team ended the season with a record of 20-14 overall, and 9-8 in power ranking matches. Head Coach Josh Olshan said some key injuries towards the end of the season contributed to their missing the state playoffs. “We were competitive in every match and showed a lot of heart all season,” said Olshan. “I was very proud of our girls.” CROSS COUNTRY Megan Reniewicki led the charge to state, ending the season ranked number one in Arizona and 86th nationally with a 5K time of 17:55. Reniewicki took first place in the district and section, and placed fifth in the state meet. She was also named to the All State First Team for Cross Country. Senior Avery Daniels and sophomore Lena Halden had exceptional seasons as well. The boys team should see some familiar faces next season with all of the top eight runners returning for next year. or mobile phone, the website said.
