T he restoration of the David Wright House is a large and comprehensive undertaking that is estimated to take up to three years to complete. The process will begin upon receipt of the Special Per- mit from the City of Phoenix to open the house to the public. In advance of the restoration, great effort has been made to assemble a team of engineers, contractors and craftsmen who have the expertise to successfully execute the restoration. Building materials, such as the ma- sonry and decorative block, have been cus- tom made, recreating the original designs, the original blend of aggregate and cement and original molds to match the existing 1950s block. Some of the major construction items include the restoration of the cantilever and concrete slabs, pool and ramp, metal roofing and interior floors, millwork and linoleum counter tops. Contemporary high-tech build- ing materials such as FRP (Fiber Rein- forced Polymer) will be used to stabilize the concrete floor slab. The project team is simultaneously preparing a National Registration ap- plication. Both the building permits and the National Historic Registry application will be submitted upon re- ceipt of the Special Permit from the City of Phoenix. R E S T O R I N G A M A S T E R W O R K IN THE NEXT FEW MONTHS, we will be submitting an application to the City of Phoenix for a Special Permit that will detail all of the uses allowed on the property, and builds upon the previously approved Text Amendment by the City Council. This past week, neighbors of the David Wright House received a letter inviting them to meet and discuss the permit from former Arizona State Land Director Vanessa Hickman. We look forward to working with neighbors to ensure that the Special Permit achieves our goal of being Invisible and Inaudible to surrounding neighbors.
