From art walks to music festivals, there are a variety of family friendly events and activities taking place in cooler parts of the state this month. Check out the list below for a few ideas that make for the perfect daytrip or weekend getaway: COOL SUMMER NIGHTS This month, Tucson’s Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum will kick off its Cool Summer Nights series. Hosted on Saturday evenings, each week has a theme, special programs and family activities. Themes range from World Oceans Night, which will feature a hands-on touch tank and ocean activity stations, to Bat Night, which promises to debunk myths about one of the planets “most misunderstood and intensely persecuted” mammals. Cool Summer Nights is free for museum members. Regular admission rates apply for the public: $19.50 for adults and $6 for children ages 4-12. Children 3 and younger are free. For more information, visit desertmuseum.org. JEROME ART WALK This historic copper mining town hosts an art walk from 5-8 p.m. on the first Saturday of each month. Explore more than 30 art studios and galleries, mingle with artists and enjoy the live music and colorful history this mile-high mountain town has to offer. GREER DAYS With an elevation of 8,300 feet, there isn’t a more perfect retreat from the heat than Greer. The village will kick off a summer with the annual Greer Days celebration on June 12 and 13. The celebration will feature a Wild West shootout at Molly Butler Lodge, fishing derby, old-fashioned Main Street parade, children’s games and a lucky duck race.
