Also contributing in big ways are freshmen Zion Green, who is running the 200- and 400-meter, and Lena Halden, who is running in the two mile. The style of the team has changed over the course of the season. Reniewicki notes that the team’s strength last year was in fi eld events and distance runs. This year the team is strong in sprints. Much of the credit can be attributed to the team’s year-around conditioning, which Reniewicki values highly. “You’ve got to be conditioning all year long,” said Reniewicki. “We have kids cross train in other sports and do workouts over the summer. If you don’t have that base of endurance and strength, you’ll be in trouble. You’ll only be able to do one or two events and you’ll struggle after that. If you condition, you can handle four events.” Megan Reniewicki set the school record for the two-mile run (10:53.97). By Nick Smith The Arcadia girls track and fi eld team is preparing for the state tournament and have several competitors who want to bring home the title for their school. “The team is doing real well,” said Head Coach Rob Reniewicki. “The team is coming into its own right now.” Some of the girls are actually threatening school records. Reniewicki’s own daughter, Megan, broke the two-mile school record, with a 10:53.97 time. The record she broke was her own, as she had previously set an 11:05 time. “It’s a cool thing for her,” said Reniewicki. “What’s great is that her brother has the boys’ record.” Mykala Ballard is also close to a record.
