There’s something for everyone at this gathering, such as the Redneck Games, which includes a watermelon seed spitting contest, arm wrestling and mechanical bull riding. Live music will play from two stages and there’s even a kids’ zone complete with bouncy houses. Over 20 vendors will be there to serve up various barbecue foods like brisket, ribs, pulled pork and bacon. General admission is $12. Kids 12 and under get in free. Guests will enjoy an exclusive dining experience provided by the restaurants of The Phoenician: Il Terrazzo, J&G Steakhouse and Relish Burger Bistro. Guests can also enjoy a signature cocktail while watching a Birds of Prey show, where attendees watch as a falconer brings the story of the phoenix to life, accompanied by a live phoenix bird. Cinco de Mayo Phoenix Festival 2 p.m. to 12 a.m. on May 2 and 12-10 p.m. on May 3, at First Street and Van Buren, Phoenix. This two day street festival commemorates Mexico’s victory over Battle of Puebla the French army in 1862, also known as Cinco de Mayo. Events include live music, Lucha Libre (Mexican wrestling), an Olympic style-boxing tournament, a kids’ zone and plenty of food and drinks. SUNDAY MAY 3 Grub in the Grove 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Queen Creek Olive Mill, 25062 S. Meridian Road, Queen Creek. This is the last food truck festival of the season. Entertainment is provided by Notes from Neptune; there will also be yard games and tours. The following food trucks will provide scrumptious eats for everyone to enjoy: The Grilled Cheese Truck, LA Roots Food Truck and Burgers Amore. Admission is free. Rose Lane, Scottsdale. The Act One Youth Theater is bringing this timeless tale to the stage. In order to become the most powerful being in the kingdom, Rumpelstiltskin must obtain the royal firstborn. He convinces a weaver to weave straw into gold and when she marries the prince, she must pay a fee: her firstborn child. In order to save her baby, she must guess the wizard’s name in 24 hours. Watch as the kids of Act One Youth Theater bring this children’s tale to life. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for kids. Valley legend and renowned Blues artist, Big Pete Pearson, is making his way to the garden. Known as Arizona’s “King of the Blues” and introduced into the Arizona Blues Hall of Fame in 1995, Big Pete will make his way to the stage for a night of soulful blues. There will be free gallery tours, show and tell stations, and a children’s hands-on gallery.
