Page 10 April 2015 For the third year of the Arcadia Family Fun Run, the goal is to have over 1,000 runners. By Amanda Goossen On April 19 at 8 a.m. Arcadia residents will hit the streets for a good cause. The Arcadia Family Fun Run will once again take over the roads around 48th Street and Lafayette Boulevard in honor of Taylor Cosmas. Mark Cosmas, owner and operator of iRun, an Arcadia full-service running, walking and hiking shoe store, has planned and prepared this run for the past three years as a commitment to his daughter. In April of 2010, Taylor Paige Cosmas passed away of SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) at only 5 months old. For Mark and Katie Cosmos, the only way to survive such pain was to try and make a difference. Team Taylor, a running team dedicated to raising money for SIDS, was soon formed. In 2013, with the running team growing at an astounding rate, the Cosmas family decided to create an entire race in honor of their daughter. The first year raised over $60,000. In 2014, its second year, the race had 790 runners and raised over $91,000 for SIDS research. The money was given to Dr. Hannah Kinney at Boston Children’s Hospital, who uses 100 percent of the funds to research an end to the disorder. The goal for the Arcadia Family Fun Run this year is to have over 1,000 runners, raising over $100,000. “I am very excited with all the momentum we have going and am ready to see this community take this event to the next level,” said Mark Cosmas. Race participants can walk, run and push strollers through the raceway. An after-race party will be held once again at OHSO Brewery, just off the finish line.
