Page 38 March 2015 Beer me! New delivery service comes to Arcadia By Michelle Donati-Grayman The beauty of delivery service is that it can save time – or even the day – in a pinch. Don’t have time to grocery shop? Safeway delivers. Forget to thaw out dinner? Order a pizza. Run out of beer or wine? Call Arcadia Premium. That’s right. You can now add beer and wine to the list of things you can have delivered to your front door, thanks to Arcadia resident Hal Rathvon. The idea came to Rathvon and his wife, Bryn, on vacation last summer. “You can get everything else delivered to your front door,” Rathvon said. “We said, ‘Why not beer and wine?’” After researching the legalities and obtaining a liquor license, Rathvon decided to bring the couple’s idea to life in late January, leaving behind a 10-year career in finance and engineering. Arcadia Premium is located at 5618 E. Thomas Road. Customers can make purchases inside the store, place an order curbside or place an order online for delivery. Delivery times vary, but generally average 15 to 30 minutes. “Delivery is easy and makes so much sense,” Rathvon said. “We wanted to put this service at people’s fingertips.” The menu features 70 beer options and 40 varieties of wine. Beer options range from domestic brews to craft beers, including local favorites like Four Peaks Brewing Company and San Tan Brewery. Prices range from $2 for a 16-ounce can of Bud Light to $22 for a 24-pack of Coronitas. Wine prices start around $9 and stretch to $34 per bottle. The company charges a flat $5 delivery fee and there is no minimum order. Tax is included in all prices. Athena Jeffrey recently tried Arcadia Premium for the first time after reading about the service online. “I mentioned the service to my husband on Friday night when we were watching TV and he said we should order something,” Jeffrey said. “We thought it’d be nice to support a new local business. We will definitely use it again.” Arcadia Premium opens at 5 p.m. and can accept orders as late as 1:30 a.m. Rathvon says they’ll release a smartphone app sometime this month. For more information: arcadiapremium.com. Hal and Bryn Rathvon plan to get a six-pack to your doorstep in less than 30 minutes. BLA_ArcadiaNews_March2015_7.75x4.indd 1 2/12/15 1:01 PM

Page 39 March 2015 By Amanda Savage Full name: Randall Adam Morris Position: Day Bartender at Seamus McCaffrey’s Irish Pub Where was your first job? Cincinnati, Ohio. I developed pictures for a microbiologist who happened to be my father. When did you get your start in the bar business? After serving in the military from 1992-1995, I got a bar-backing job. Within two weeks of that, I started pouring beers. Where may have people seen you around town? Stoudemire’s, Johnny’s Uptown and The Melting Pot. How do you spend your free time? Reading, golf and exercise. What’s your guilty pleasure? Chocolate milkshakes. What’s a fact people might not know about you? I almost died at age 2 of Appendicitis. Parking horses at the bar What is your favorite thing about being a bartender? The connections you make. If you could only pick three things that embody a great bartender, what would they be? Personality, empathy and personality. What’s the oddest request you’ve ever gotten from a customer? I had a guy come to the bar one day and say, “Hey man, do you know where I can park my horse.” Turns out the guy is Doc Mishler, and I had to accommodate three horses right outside (in downtown). What’s your go-to drink when you’re out? Right now, a Dublin donkey. Which is basically a Moscow mule, with Irish whiskey instead of vodka. What are your favorite local places to frequent? The Rose & Crown Pub, Crescent Ballroom, really anything downtown. There’s a place for everyone here. What’s your favorite cocktail from your place of work? Off the menu, probably the Johnny Appleseed, or my Dublin donkey. Not valid with any other special promotion. One per table or group.
