Page 16 August 2 0 14 New year, fresh leadership By Alessandra Dagirmanjian St. Theresa Catholic School will welcome Patrick Reardon to its team this upcoming school year as their new principal. Reardon previously worked as a teacher and department chairperson at Brophy College Preparatory for 12 years, and then as assistant principal at Seton Catholic High School in Chandler. For the past four years, he was principal at St. Thomas Aquinas Grade School in Avondale. Principal Reardon is excited about the opportunity to work at an established community like St. Theresa. “I love the people here. This is just a fantastic school and community. I’m mostly looking forward to getting to know everybody, establishing myself in a leadership role and seeing what I can do to make it better,” said Reardon. Having grown up in the valley since 1959 and taught or acted as head of various establishments in Arizona, Reardon is familiar with the community surrounding St. Theresa. He has known some of the parish’s members since he was a young adult and he even recognizes some of the parents at St. Theresa as students he taught years ago. “St. Theresa has been a primary feeder into Brophy and Xavier. Being part of that extended community is a big part of the reason I’m here,” said Reardon. Reardon said he loves being able to work at a school like St. Theresa, where intellectual discussion is always open and sincere. He is most looking forward to working with the school’s highly esteemed faculty in taking steps to improve things even further. “This place does things very well. The education that’s provided is outstanding. This is a blue ribbon school and the students that leave here get into honors programs wherever they go. They’re well educated, and they’re prepared as leaders. Through working with the staff, we will figure out what our priority is,” said Reardon. Parent and board member Kathleen Fern has gotten to know Reardon and is also excited for him to take on this leadership role in the fall. “His reputation for academic excellence and strong leadership precedes him. At the initial ‘meet and greet,’ many of the dads were sharing stories of how he inspired them during their days at Brophy. Since I’m on the School Advisory Board, I have also had the opportunity to witness his respect for the faculty, insistence on educational rigor, increased communication with the parents and perhaps, most importantly, his love for children and learning,” said Fern. Reardon has already begun working with the staff at St. Theresa, and is glad to have transitioned into such a wonderful organization and community. Principal Patrick Reardon has a long history of working with Phoenix area Catholic schools. Read Us Online Now!
