A Revocable Living Trust allows you to create the legal framework for your assets to be handled if you become incapacitated or upon your death. Here are 5 of the top reasons to have a trust: 1 Without a trust, a court conservatorship will be required if you want to leave more than $10,000 to minor children or grandchildren. By Amanda Goossen I don’t know about you but this year, more than any year in my life, I’m ready for summer. I have young children. The school schedule and day-to-day hustle begins to wear on one’s spirit. I know in the scheme of things it seems rather petty to complain about having too many after school activities, but holy cow I’m exhausted. Making lunches, preparing class parties, meeting deadlines at work...goodness, summer sounds good. I’m blessed. I work at a job where I can, for the most part, develop my own schedule. My mom lives down the street so babysitters are never a problem. Still, I ache for summer, for freedom and unscheduled happiness. I yearn for my kiddos to play all day and beg to spend the afternoon in the swimming pool with Otter Pops, goggles and sunscreen. I think back just a few decades ago to when I was a kid. My first recollection of the end of the school year and coming summer was the end of the year party in 5th grade. It was a swim party. The kind of party that the only girl in 5th grade with a woman’s body suddenly realizes is her worst nightmare disguised as fun. My mom brought home three bathing suits from Wet Seal the day before the festivities. I was 10. And I was terrified. I spent the entire party in a t-shirt, sitting in a patio chair. Arms crossed over my chest. Super hip bathing suits tucked neatly in my bright pink beach bag. Summer was the worst, at least school required clothing. As an adult however, summer means potential vacations. Rising temps mean a possible decrease in the workload. Evening sunshine brings possibilities. Three years ago, the summer before my daughter began kindergarten, I realized our world was about to change. Life as we knew it would alter forever and we had absolutely no choice. School meant a forced routine. A regular beginning and end. For some reason it scared me. But now, it’s inspiring. I love the fact that each year my children get to finish something. They complete one stage of life and prepare for another. And although each June, as if the director shouts ‘it’s a wrap’ and I feel one year older, I’m thankful for this milestone. The world evolves. We all grow. The 10-year-old girl hiding in her stupid oversized t-shirt gets to become the woman she always wanted to be and all the while watch her beautiful babies grow. Summer is here…and it’s full of possibilities!
