Page 4 February 2 0 1 4 Filling the month of love with heart-warming stories By Amanda Goossen It’s the official month of love...are you ready?? I know many of you have mixed feelings on February 14. Why do we need a reminder of the love we have...or don’t have...you ask? Well, I challenge you to look at it differently. I once felt like you. While the girls were all giggling with adoration for the boy whose name they’d been doodling on their notebooks, I was the friend to every darn boy in school. I’d help them plan their dates and figure out their Valentine’s Day plans with their crush. I was the only girl I knew who didn’t get asked to our prom and when my best friend took me to his, he ditched me after the dance to hang out with the girl he loved. I had never felt more like a pity date in my life. I hated Valentine’s Day. Who needed it! Blah. But don’t feel bad for me. Or the other girls who are living, or once lived my reality. Sometimes it all works out in the end. I found my love story and Valentine’s Day no longer means roses and chocolates, but so much more. To me, Valentine’s Day is about all the love in my life. It’s about my husband and our fairytale love story (ask me, I’ll tell you sometime). He’s kinda awesome, or as my 8-year-old daughter likes to say, “Daddy is awesome, funny and nice.” It’s about my two kiddos and the memories we make each year, with heart shaped confetti all over the house and fancy desserts. It’s about the friends and family I try to show an extra sign of appreciation. So this month, Arcadia News has decided to spotlight the positive side of February 14.
