Page 60 August 2013 Early exposure to music brings lifelong enjoyment By Craig Goossen When I was a young boy I tagged along with my dad as he ran an errand for work. A boxing promoter by trade, he needed to go to a venue to pick up tickets for his upcoming event. I remember walking into the club, packed, smoky and filled with music. Nobody bothered to notice a child in their midst, but I noticed everything. John Entwistle, bass player of The Who, was on stage sliding his fingers up the neck of his instrument, an image I’ll never forget. People of Arcadia, I urge you to expose your children to the art of music. Get them a turntable, take them to the record store, teach them how to care for that vinyl and maybe slip them into a show and let them experience the power, energy and soul of live music. It will enrich their lives, and hopefully give them something to pass on to their children. LOS LOBOS Angels With Dirty Faces (1992) The East Los Angeles band’s been playing its very own rock-n-roll for nearly 40 years and there’s no end in sight. Los L o b o s will be j o i n i n g L o s L o n e l y Boys and the terrific Alejandro Escovedo, so get there early. Los Lobos performs Aug. 3 at Talking Stick Resort & Casino, 9800 E. Barlow, fresh off a rejuvenated tour with his other band Dinosaur Jr and recording a new batch of Sebadoh songs, should have the makings for a hot night at the Crescent. LYLE LOVETT Brown Eyed Handsome Man (2012) Lyle Lovett and His Large Band bring their special brand of American music to the Ikeda Theater.
