CALL US LAST! By Danika Worthington Arcadia attorney Jake Curtis is fruitful in both the courtroom and his backyard. The partner with Burch & Cracchiolo is a successful gardener. Curtis has seven raised beds where he grows a variety of vegetables and fruits ranging from lettuce to pumpkins, he said. He began his garden before it became a popular thing to do in Arizona, said Scott Zwillinger, a friend and former colleague. “We teased him a little bit about it, but then we went back there and saw what he had going on and it was quite impressive,” Zwillinger said. It is no surprise, though, that Curtis is proficient at gardening. He has been doing it all his life. While growing up in Iowa, Curtis said he lived near his grandparents and his grandfather had a garden of decorative plants. “When I was young he saw me as a free source of labor so he basically made me take care of his garden,” Curtis said. “I got maybe a little bit, like a quarter an hour.” When he was young, Curtis said he was frustrated with the task, but now enjoys gardening.
