When fi res do strike, fi re fi ghters hit it at the head fi rst, where the fi re started, Nunez said. Fires that run through small brush are not a huge concern since there is no potential for the fl ames to spread. But high wind can create greater danger, Nunez said. “Our biggest concern is safety and having no further property damage,” he said. If a fi re is widespread, residents will be evacuated to a school a safe distance away and the fi re department crisis team will keep residents updated, Nunez said. Nunez encouraged residents to keep the inside of their homes free from clutter, as well, in case a fi re ignites indoors. “The biggest concern with hoarding is access into the home,” he said. “It’s hard to fi nd anyone in there and really hard to rescue people.” Nunez said if the home is laden with combustibles then it poses a greater danger to surrounding homes. At KTV, you can belt Britney Spears songs to your heart’s content around the company of good friends without judgment. “Well, maybe minimal judgment.” Last summer’s trip wasn’t O’Connor’s fi rst to China.
