Page 17 May 2013 Dads Club continues to aid Ingleside Middle School By Jon La fl amme When Ingleside Middle School needs some extra help funding a project, the administration calls up John Trayner and the Ingleside Dads Club. Trayner is one of 55 dads who have teamed up to support the students at Ingleside. He said the club just launched its most ambitious project to date: a paver drive to raise $40,000 for a new computer lab at the school. People wishing to donate may purchase one of three sizes of custom-engraved stone pavers to be installed during the summer at the entrance to the newly constructed Ingleside administration building. Pavers are $45, $60 or $200. The money raised from the drive, which is set to run throughout May, will be used to purchase 40 notebook computers for the new lab, which Trayner said he expected to cost $24,000. The remaining money raised will be used to train Ingleside’s teachers on new technology and to purchase tablets and electronic books for the school’s library, Trayner said. So far, the paver drive has raised enough money to purchase 20 computers. Anne-Marie Woolsey, the interim principal at Ingleside, said the new computer lab will be the fourth computer lab on campus but the only wireless one. She said the wireless notebooks would allow the classroom to remain versatile. Woolsey praised the work of the Ingleside Dads club. “They’ve been fantastic,” she said, adding the dads have purchased physical education equipment, organized family picnics and has provided lunches for staff during parent-teacher conferences. “Every school should have a Dads Club,” Woolsey said. The volunteer club was formed three years ago with about fi ve dads and has since grown to 55, Trayner said. The dads meet at Kitchen 56 monthly to discuss new ideas and plan events. “I think half of the wives are thrilled that we’re out of the house,” Trayner said. George Bosworth Jr., whose granddaughter is a seventh-grader at Ingleside Middle School, said he volunteers regularly with the Dads Club and feels strongly that helping Ingleside is worthwhile. “I’m a worker bee, basically, and happy to do it,” Bosworth said. Trayner said the group is focused on projects that directly impact the kids. On May 15, he and other members of the club plan to pass out between 900 and 1,000 ice creams during lunch after the kids wrap up a week of standardized testing. Continued on page 27 Grand Opening !
