Page 53 March 2013 Top-notch music shows cram calendar in March By Craig Goossen March is the perfect month for Arcadia residents. The city is booming with good times just a hop, skip and jump away. Spring Training baseball, an abundance of cool hangouts and eateries, but most importantly a variety of interesting music events such as South By South Roosevelt Music Festival (SxSR), Rampage Fest (Sail Inn), Music In The Garden (Desert Botanical Garden) and McDowell Mountain Music Festival (Downtown PHX). The options for sonic enthusiasts in this pocket of the Valley are jammed with major touring acts and cool local bands. This month’s featured mix gives you a taste of just a few suggestions of shows to check out this month. THE SOFT MOON Insides (2012) The opening track of this month’s mix showcases the dark waves this Bay Area band will bring downtown, on an otherwise perfect Thursday night. The Soft Moon performs March 7 at Crescent Ballroom. Tickets are $12; 21 and older. ALLAH-LAS Don’t You Forget It (2012) The Los Angeles band released a great, sun-splashed record a few months ago. Their debut release is a total keeper from start to fi nish and having them roll through Arizona should be a party. This track is just one of a handful of gems of the album so make sure to investigate further. Allah-Las perform Day 1 of Rampage Fest March 8 at Sail Inn in Tempe. The show is $12; all ages. ERIC CLAPTON Promises (1978) Eric Clapton’s a living legend and thankfully still on the road. He’s celebrating 50 years of music and kicking off his tour on our home court. There are so many massive songs that could be pulled out his catalogue for the mix, but here’s a simple pop jam to remind us how clean and calm a craftsmen EC can be. EDWARD SHARPE That’s What’s Up (2012) The three-day McDowell Mountain Music Festival moves downtown this year and the possibilities are endless.
