From the start, Turelli’s parents made it clear that where he went to college was his decision. They never attempted to sway him towards one school or away from another, but they did provide themselves as resources to help him make the best decision possible. Tim accompanied him on his recruiting visits while Turelli’s mother handled the preliminary communications with interested coaches. They compared notes on campuses and programs, listed pros and cons, and examined different perspectives. And football was only a part of the consideration. “We told him, ‘Don’t go to school just to play football. Go to school where you’ll have a good college experience,’ ” Tim said. In football especially, a player is only one play away from his last game, and his parents wanted to make sure that should that worst case scenario happen, their son was at a place where he would enjoy the rest of his college experience. For a while, it was a dif fi cult choice. Some schools fi t well in some ways but not in others; there wasn’t really a particular favorite. Then Turelli went to Wyoming for his of fi cial visit. “Once I got there and fi nished out the weekend, I knew it was the place I wanted to spend my college career at,” Turelli said. The player and his parents felt right at home. “They basically made you feel like family right away,” his father said. They quickly formed close connections with the coaches, and came away with the feeling that the school valued Turelli as a person as well as a player. At the end of January, Turelli signed his letter of intent, making the decision of fi cial. “It sounds so cliché,” Turelli said, “but it was literally a weight lifted off my shoulders, their shoulders, and everyone else in the family who had played such a good part in helping me get to where I am.” Once the papers were signed, the family was ready to move on to the next phase of their adventure, but just because the recruitment process is over doesn’t mean that the excitement and the nerves are over as well. There’s something Turelli is looking forward to more than anything else. “Running out of the tunnel to thousands of screaming fans,” he said. “My fi rst game is at Nebraska. That’s going to be a crazy place to play my fi rst game in college.” Of those thousands of fans, there’s already one who’s looking forward to that fi rst game almost as much as Turelli is. “I am certainly planning on being in that stadium,” Tim said. “You know, your son only has one fi rst college game, and I plan on being there.” Turelli Continued from page 46 Turn your quality furniture, art and home decor into CASH!
