Page 25 March 2013 Ingleside service club reaches out to assist others By Michelle Milan Members of the Ingleside Trojans Learning to Care (TLC) Club of Ingleside Middle School will create about nine service events this school year. They meet twice a month for planning and carrying out a new service event. TLC is sponsored by the Ingleside PTO, said Sue Tessmer, club co-chairwoman. The goal is to teach students philanthropy, motivate them to be involved and look at different ways to do things in a community. “It empowers them that they can make a difference in the world and it creates leadership,” Tessmer said. “They don’t have to be grown-up to make a difference.” Tessmer said 12 students were in the club last year, with membership up to more than 70 this year. All grade levels are involved as well as different kinds of groups. Alex Smith, also a co-chairperson, said it’s not just the chorus group or the sports group, it’s all groups, which creates a sense of community in the school. “That’s the biggest impact. It’s their club. They really make it happen,” Smith said.
