Page 49 January 2013 Arcadia resident top salesperson 16 years in a row By Greg A. Bruns Long-time Arcadia resident Tino Ferrulli won “Salesperson of the Year” at Phoenix Motor Company in 2012 – which makes it 16 years in a row he has earned the distinction at Arizona’s oldest Mercedes Benz dealer. Ferrulli – with 26 years of experience in the Valley – attributes some of his success to his “great clients and their referrals,” but he also notes that it “stems from attitude-attitude- attitude.” If you’ve ever met or spoken with Tino, you know that is an accurate statement. Incidentally, the Scottsdale City Council recently approved Phoenix Motor Company’s plans to move their operation to Scottsdale Road and Highland. There was an outpouring of community support for the new dealership, since PMC wasn’t looking for anything in the form of tax breaks or zoning height exceptions. Phoenix Motor Company, 225 W. Indian School Rd, Phoenix. Sadly, Pugzie’s Sandwich Shop (located at 21st Street and Highland Avenue) is now only a memory after 31 years. On the western end of our distribution area, Pugzie’s had one of the very fi rst Arcadia News distribution racks – joining our ranks in the mid 90s. We wish Lynn Pugliano and her sister Lisa Pugliano-Wright well in their retirement. The Arcadia Commons center at 42nd Street and Indian School Road has been exploding with activity and cool new businesses. Although you’d never know it from their road signage, which hasn’t been updated since Bush was in of fi ce. Here are some of the latest tidbits from the Arcadia Commons: New kid on the block Milagro Grill won several awards at the Arizona Taco Festival last fall, which is pretty amazing, considering they just launched. Milagro won awards for their beef, pork and chicken tacos. Milagro Grill, 4280 E. Indian School Rd., milagrogrillaz.com, 602-773-5844. A few doors down from Milagro you’ll fi nd The Green Gurl , a new neighborhood boutique that offers a selection of items from around the world. They feature recycled and repurposed art as well as clothing and bags. The Green Gurl, 4280 E. Indian School Rd., 602-956-0464. Sweet tooth neighbors will appreciate the new Nothing Bundt Cakes , which just opened in December back in the corner of the center, where 2 Be Fit used to be. Those familiar with the brand have nothing bundt delicious things to say about the place. Nothing Bundt Cakes, 4290 E. Indian School Rd., 602-954-4041. Camelback Mountain Toastmaster Club is in a new home. They will have an Open House there on January 28 from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. They will be meeting now at the Franciscan Renewal Center (SR Luca room) at 5802 E. Lincoln Road. The latest fi tness studio to open up in the ‘hood is Orangetheory Fitness, a unique concept that has recently hit the Valley. Orangetheory Fitness is a group-training class that combines cardio and strength training to burn through 900 calories in 60 minutes, which leads to the “Orange Effect.” The Orange Effect is based on the idea of excess post-exercise oxygen consumption (EPOC)—aka your metabolism. According to their web site, the result is more energy, visible toning and extra calorie burn for up to 36 hours post-workout. Orangetheory Fitness, 5109 N. 44th Street, #D401, orangetheory fi tness.com, 602-955-1798. Continuing with the theme of new construction and the proliferation of new businesses opening all around, there’s a bevy of activity at the Town & Country Center . What’s new? For those that are looking for a shopping adventure (read: thrill of the hunt), there’s Nordstrom Rack . Whole Foods , along with Bianco’s Pizza , Dunkin’ Donuts , and Potbelly Sandwich Works will bring the “foodies” out. With a variety of projects in the works, opening dates are always changing. The Shops at Town & Country, SE corner 20th Street & Camelback Rd., townandcountryshops.com. The Arcadia Barber Shop is now open at 3635 E. Indian School Rd. You may remember that the space was previously named Sal’s Barber Shop . Central Bistro has opened the doors of their upscale, neighborhood restaurant. Initial reports from the Arcadia News include the words “must” and “go.” Central Bistro, 3160 E. Camelback Rd. (in the old Zen32 space) centralbistroaz.com. Pig & Pickle is a new spot, formerly Atlas Bistro, that the chef pair Keenan Bosworth and Joshua Riesner have opened in Scottsdale at 2922 N. Hayden Road. Pigandpickle.com. Business news to share?
