We hung out in our jammies and she just hosted the most elegant party in her home. She happened to pull together 10 or 12 people who had something to do with Judson. We all remembered each other after 40 years. That was so special.” Lowry doesn’t remember the tree Haught drew, but she knows what she would have said to keep her creating. “One thing that I like to encourage people to do is to express whatever is inside of them, immediately,” Lowry said. “It doesn’t matter if it’s great, because, what happens is, one day you wake up and that expression is gone.” Lowry signs all her art with the words “Skyline” or “Sky.” “Patsy’s my name, Patsy Palmer was my maiden name, Patsy Lowry’s my married name, but my art person is Skyline,” Lowry said. “My art self. Good music is bountiful and there’s no better time in history to indulge. If you tend to struggle with how to discover and purchase new music, fret not, the variety of options at your fi ngertips is nothing short of amazing. The sea of music is vast so it’s best if you jump right in and start swimming. Last year was another great year of releases and this month’s list is made up of my favorites, which dominated my turntable, CD player and iPod in 2012. JUSTIN TOWNES EARLE Nothing’s Going To Change The Way You Feel About Me Now It’s simply a matter of time before this guy writes a hit song that will make everyone hum along. Earle’s fi ne brand of American music is something to take notice of without hesitation. JACK WHITE Blunderbuss Jack White’s a Detroit tough guy, talented in a variety of creative arenas and quite possibly a modern musical genius. TY SEGALL Twins The proli fi c garage rock wonder released his best work in 2011. Releasing three killer LPs last year with Twins being his fi nest achievement. ALABAMA SHAKES Boys & Girls The debut LP from Alabama Shakes was heavily touted upon release and for good reason. Brittany Howard’s soulful voice is raw power and the Shakes rootsy soul is right on the money. The WALKMEN Heaven Maturing gracefully into a veteran band, The Walkmen created a cool-out classic that’s loaded with some of the best songs they’ve ever recorded. HERE WE GO MAGIC A Different Ship A spotless affair with producer Nigel Goodrich in the studio, perfectly presenting Luke Temple and his band’s smooth chops on this gem of a release. THE SHINS Port Of Morrow The fourth Shins release sports a new cast, aside from leader James Mercer. Port of Morrow displays Mercer’s perfectly twisted pop over a batch of infectious songs. EDWARD SHARPE AND THE MAGNETIC ZEROS Self-Titled Just when you thought you could tag this band, they follow up their smash debut with this special creation. Alex Ebert and crew aren’t the loose joyride you may have initially suspected. Ebert’s a heavy talent that can pull off anything he desires. DINOSAUR JR I Bet The Sky It’s not often a classic band gets back together and pulls it off. Three releases deep into their comeback, Dinosaur Jr might be better than ever. Los Angeles native Craig Goossen grew up in the night clubs, bars and record stores of the L.A. music scene. Now an Arcadia resident, he fi nds enjoyment through his music collection and the venues and shops dispensing sounds in the Phoenix area.
