Page 26 September 2012 Tricks help airplane travel and avoiding jet lag, too By Kaley Kalil Once we’re all loaded onto an airplane, there’s not a whole lot we can do to make the fl ight any shorter or the drinks any cheaper. There are, however, certain tricks passengers can follow to make the trip more comfortable and the ensuing jet lag more tolerable. Here are fi ve quick tips that will make your next fl ight a breeze. Drink plenty of water It’s easy to get dehydrated while fl ying, and dehydration makes it more dif fi cult to recover from jet lag. Since it often takes awhile before fl ight attendants can offer refreshments onboard, consider purchasing water to carry onto the plane. The caffeine in coffee could end up keeping you up at night, no matter how tired you are; and due to altitude and cabin pressurization, one alcoholic beverage in the air equals about two on the ground. It’s probably not the best idea to meet your Aunt Sally while you’re loopy, considering you haven’t seen her in almost two years. Stick to water. Sleep or stay awake I often hear people ask whether it’s better to sleep on a fl ight or to stay awake. Personally, I prefer to sleep. Sometimes, I even fall asleep before takeoff and wake up during the landing. But, I think travelers should do what feels right for them. If you feel like watching a movie, watch a movie. If you need to get some work done, feel free to do it. However, for those who do wish to fi t a nap in somewhere, I believe Continued on page 32 C e l l : ( 6 0 2 ) 6 1 9 - 4 5 5 0 O f f i c e : ( 4 8 0 ) 2 8 7 - 5 2 0 0 7 1 3 5 E .
