Komen Phoenix Race for the Cure Oct. 14 in the State Capitol District. Last year, more than 25,000 participants helped raise nearly $1.8 million toward education, screening and treatment for the medically underserved throughout Central and Northern Arizona and for international research efforts. “Last year’s race was incredibly inspiring,” said Arcadia resident Renee Hernandaz. “It was amazing to see how passionate everyone was for the cause.” The Phoenix Race is the largest 5K event in Arizona and is made possible by the nearly 1,700 volunteers working year- round for the one-day event. It is usually revocable, or changeable, during the life of the creator of the trust. The use of a living trust is an important way of avoiding probate court involvement if a person is ill or dies. A person can choose the trusted friend or relative to succeed them as Trustee and to take care of the person’s assets the way the person wants as opposed to having the court involved. Without a trust, the probate court must get involved and family and heirs are notified about your assets. A trust allows funds for a minor to be overseen by the Successor Trustee and used for the minor. Without a trust, inherited assets for a minor will be overseen by the court and distributed to the child at age 18. Without a trust, adults who receive government benefits due to disability could lose those benefits because of an inheritance. With a trust, you can make sure your disabled adult child or family member does not lose governmental benefits and does receive your supplemental assistance. Herberger Park in Arcadia. An Arcadia mother with a young son, Wong fi nds herself the drill sergeant of Boot Camp Babes AZ, a women-only exercise program designed to tackle weight and fi tness struggles in a disciplined, results-oriented atmosphere. “I knew what it was like to get up in the morning and not like who you see in the mirror,” Wong said. Wong, who played competitive sports as a youngster, found her fi tness level declining when she was working at a desk as an electrical engineer. By the time her son Kace was born, she had gained an extra 20 pounds. Determined to take control, Wong Google searched for a way to lose weight while spending time with her newborn son.
