Page 18 July 2012 employers in wrongful termination and workplace harassment lawsuits often use information from social media sites to paint an un fl attering picture of the ex-employee. And the “smoking gun” evidence in family law, especially divorce cases, often originates from social media posts. In response to these investigatory tactics, many litigants attempt to hide damaging information by removing it from their social networking sites. Under the law, once litigation becomes reasonably likely to occur, the parties have an obligation to preserve all relevant information. Those who delete or attempt to delete information from their online account invite court sanctions. These are just a few of the many complex issues facing the legal industry as we grapple with social media. There is no doubt social networking sites have opened the door to new and exciting opportunities to connect and communicate with others. But law has always lagged behind technology. So, until de fi nitive guidelines are set, attorneys and nonlawyers alike should proceed with caution when entering this brave new world. Arcadia resident Jennifer A. Post CPR instructions on the pool fence. Find American Red Cross classes at redcross.org. Another layer of protection is a pool alarm and door and window alarms on your house. Keep rescue equipment near the pool such as a long pole, life jacket and a portable phone. In fl atable toys and “ fl oaties” are not a substitute for a life jacket or supervision. Boating and alcohol use do not mix. One in fi ve adult drownings at a lake are related to alcohol. Additionally, driving a boat under the in fl uence of alcohol or drugs puts others at risk and is illegal, the same as driving a motor vehicle under the in fl uence. Children should always wear life jackets on a boat or near bodies of water. Life jackets are recommended for adults as well. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in 88 percent of those drowning cases, the victims were not wearing a life jacket. Think through what you would do, before an emergency happens. The CDC recommends the following steps: Shout for help. Pull the child from the water. Call 9-1-1. Check the child’s airway and breathing and immediately begin CPR/ CCR if necessary. The plotline is clean and, perhaps a fi rst in time travel movie history, doesn’t try to confuse the audience by adding unnecessary details. One of the best pieces of conversation occurs in the past between the agents when Agent J asks younger K what happened to make him the serious, at times grouchy, partner he’s used to, and K replies, “I don’t know, it hasn’t happened yet.” Too many movies overdo the special effects, but this one seems to know exactly where they go and how much. They’re used to improve the strong points, but don’t take over the rest of the show. It’s dif fi cult to determine which parts of the imaginatively created aliens are CGI versus costuming, and that’s a nice change. Now that isn’t to say the movie is without fl aws, but it’s one of those fi lms that allows the audience to stop picking it apart and just enjoy. So if you’re looking for something fun to see on a free day, try Men in Black 3, as it gets 3 ½ stars from this movie fanatic.
