Page 54 June 2012 FrescoAZ plays home life, DJ duty with record gusto By Domenico Nicosia Dan Agloro, a new resident of the Arcadia community, distinguishes work life and home life when he leaves the mixing table as FrescoAZ and sits behind the kitchen table as dad. “Family is the backbone of success,” he said. Agloro, or known in the entertainment world for his disc jockey work under the name FrescoAZ, works at a full-service entertainment company as the operations coordinator of FrescoAZ. For the past four years, FrescoAZ has been claiming a stake on Pinal County where it started off working at local bars and personal parties. Now, the company has expanded its crew to 21 members and offers services including video jockey, weddings, foam and snow parties, school events and photography. “I have watched him come out here and turn the scene,” said Gary Whatley, a hip- hop artist in Pinal County who goes by G Double at FrescoAZ. Agloro works at FrescoAZ side by side with his wife, Samantha, who grew up in Arcadia. “I am the right hand and she is the left,” Agloro said. Samantha handles photography and helps coordinate artists and promotions. Often she is the mind behind the books working with scheduling, contracts and resource management. The Agloros, who have two children and are expecting a third this month, moved to Arcadia in December to be near to where Samantha grew up. She and two of her brothers attended Acadia High School, and her father was a Little League coach. “This is where I’m from,” Samantha said. “This is where I was born and raised.” When the family decided it was time to move, she voted to raise their family in Arcadia because of the closeness of her family and the well-known schools in the area. Her daughter attends Tavan Elementary School, where she went as a child. “Everything is the same from when I was younger,” Samantha said. “One of my rst-grade teachers is still teaching in the school.” But where Agloro said family life is more about renting movies and just hanging out together, his work life is fast paced. Page 55 June 2012 FrescoAZ Continued from page 54 jockey as a service, one that impressed Travis Tinney, the general manager. “He promotes more than anyone I know,” Travis said. “He’s got great ideas and he’s easy to work with.” Agloro approaches the business with the corporate precision of a Wall Street broker. As a personal investor and broker for events he compares music artists to companies in the stock market and discusses the risk associated with various artists. “I came from the corporate world,” Agloro said. “But for some reason or another, the entertainment world seemed to be more up my alley.” Agloro likens the progression of events in his life to that of Forrest Gump. “I fell into a lot of opportunities,” he said. He started in the military working with psychological operations, a type of special operations associated with unconventional warfare. When he wasn’t deployed, Agloro worked in North Carolina as a disc jockey. His work in the military sparked an interest in marketing that led him to pursue a bachelor’s degree in international business and a master’s in business management at Arizona State University - again working as a disc jockey to nance his living. Artist consulting opportunities fell into his lap and he took on media kits and public relations work for R&B artists. “You don’t stop till the job is done. You don’t have room for failure,” he said. This is especially true when risking investors’ money, Agloro said. With 12 years of experience under his belt, four of which have been working for FrescoAZ, Agloro said he takes pride in the individual attention he gives to each event and relationships. “I could have been one of those lazy glory hounds,” Agloro said.
