Pfeiffer can’t help them; or rather she could, if her part as the head of the Collins family were bigger. The case is the same with the rest of the cast not getting enough screen time for their characters to ush out to their full potential. This is one of the worst offenses, since the movie shows the audience enough for them to understand the success it could’ve been had the lmmakers used the captivating characters and subplots to their advantage. There is one high point of the movie, and that’s the beginning scene through which we see Barnabas’ past. With Depp narrating his character’s tragic tale of loss and misery, these are without a doubt the best ve minutes of the two-hour production. Overall, Dark Shadows gets 2 ½ stars and leaves me longing for an original Tim Burton production rather than another so- so remake.
