By Amanda Goossen If you are seeking out a small bit of heaven for your 2012 Mother’s Day brunch, look no further than a little French getaway in Old Town Scottsdale, Petite Maison. A hidden gem in the desert, Petite Maison (7216 E. Shoeman Lane) is a quaint French cottage tucked away from the street. As you pull up in front, the garden is in full bloom and the countryside cottage transports you to a different place and time. There is no better place to treat your mother, mother-in-law or mother-of-your- children, to an afternoon of bliss. Chef/owner James Porter has developed a tribute to the “Mom’s In My Life” with his Mother’s Day brunch menu. He has chosen favorite recipes by his mom, mother-in-law and cherished grandmother to highlight on the menu. Porter’s mother, Nancy, is famous in her family for her out-of-this-world banana bread. Young and old gather around the table to enjoy it warm from the oven, bringing a slew of acclamations as they devour every piece. Petite Maison will be serving Nancy Porter’s banana bread as a Stuffed Banana Bread French Toast with Orange Chantilly and Warm Maple Syrup. Devine. Upon arriving in South Africa to visit his mother-in-law Roxanne Goldman, James enjoyed a wonderful fi rst meal of Salmon Tourte, served with chilled cucumber and dill salad. Touching upon his passion for French food and his love of fresh seasonal produce, this meal de fi nitely impressed. Grandmother Katherine Porter is a treasure in the Porter clan. Her Potato Gratin recipe is almost as remarkable as the beloved matriarch herself and the secret seasoning, only shared with the most passionate family chefs, is one reason it stands out. On Mother’s Day these thin, hand-sliced potatoes with fresh cream and shaved cheese will be served with Roasted Pork Continued on page 37 WE’RE HAPPY TO SERVE YOU AT ANY OF OUR 8 CONVENIENT VALLEY LOCATIONS! • 22 S.
