They’ll get angry, they’ll get mad. They go through it just the same, so understanding the psychological aspect of it and how to keep them motivated to continue their treatment is a very, very important part of this job.” Erickson tries to keep a positive attitude with injured athletes. “With the high school kids, I use a lot of encouragement,” he said. “Hype up the ego, pretty much. Let them know, ‘You’re doing great. You’re ahead or where you need to be.’ ” But the center fi elder’s real game- changing talent is his speed. “The game goes as he goes,” Rudolph said. Last season, Satran led the league in stolen bases, going 38-for-39 on the base paths. Every time Satran gets on base, he is a threat to run. He will also help the Titans on defense, where he ef fi ciently patrols center. “He should have another milestone year,” said Rudolph. Returning seniors Drew Butler, Mike Scannell, Michael Roberts and Preston McLain will also bring their experience to the plate. All four players will need to contribute from the middle of the order if the Titan offense is going to put runs on the board with regularity. Junior Tyler Murphy, who played sparingly at the varsity level last season, also will contribute with a decent bat and versatility in the fi eld. On the mound, senior southpaw Andrew Naderer will attempt to further establish himself as the ace of the pitching staff. Last season he claimed that title with an 8-2 record and a 1.74 ERA. The future Grand Canyon ‘Lope keeps batters off balance with great accuracy and a devastating breaking ball. Pushing Naderer will be Gary Cornish. The hard-throwing righty goes right at batters and found some success last year. Cornish went 4-4 with a 4.20 ERA. He had up-and-down year, evidenced by his ERA, which was in fl ated by a few rough outings. The Titans will need Cornish to prove he is a reliable number-two starter behind Naderer. The Titans also will look to the rest of the lineup to contribute on the mound and spell Naderer and Cornish, especially in the fi rst few weeks of the season when the schedule is hectic, said Rudolph. Juniors Luke Pine and Jimmy Roren are two young arms who should be able to hold down the back end of the rotation while also contributing from the bullpen, said Rudolph. Baseball Continued from page 54 Erickson Continued from page 54 Center helps all injuires By Nathan Humpherys In addition to working at Arcadia High, Jason Erickson works at Rehab Plus. “It’s a very professional atmosphere, a very professional place,” he said, “but at the same time, it’s not all work.” He said that helps clients enjoy their experience in rehab, which makes them more compliant with the exercises and programs. “Rehab is a hassle,” Erickson said. “People just wish they could be better. “At least the way it is at Rehab Plus, we try to make it as lighthearted as possible to make it the best experience they have. And one thing that I’ve seen is that when people go in there, they’re not dreading going into rehab. They enjoy their time there because they know they’re getting the help they need.” Though Rehab Plus has a wide range of clients that extends past athletes, owner Warren Anderson sees a common trait in most of the people that come in. “The bulk of the people we see are motivated to get well and stay well,” he said. “Our facility is especially suited for somebody that’s really motivated to get well and return to an active lifestyle.” Sal Salese, a middle-aged fi re fi ghter, goes to Rehab Plus to get his right ankle worked on. He has had a series of injuries to it over the years, and recently had surgery to remove a bone-spur and repair some tendons and ligaments. The rehab he has done at Rehab Plus is “most noticeable on fi res,” he said. “Just being more con fi dent about not injuring my ankle and being able to do my job ef fi ciently.” The facility, located on the corner of 42 nd Street and Thomas Road, offers physical therapy as well as sports performance programs. itness • Recreation • Baseball l l l • Dance • Church News • Hopi • Football • • • • B Botanical Garden • Arcadia High • People • P Z Zoo • St. Theresa • Basketball • Kids • T T T M M Museums • Softball • Shemer Art • Christ L L Lu u u • • • Volleyball • Neighborhood News • S E E E Ente t i oo • St. T T Th h • Museums • So of f f Shemer Art • Christ Lutheran • Volleyb b b b b e e e eighborhood News • Sports • Arts & Entertai i i i Ingleside • Football • Neighborhood Eve e en n n q q qu uaw Peak • Recreation • Drama • Baseball • D Church News • Hopi • Arcadia High • Hea al l l it t tness • Arts & Entertainment • Local Ne e e e e po o o orts • Arts & Entertainment • Schools • H H He e e F F Fitness • Recreation • Baseball • ANLC • D D D C C C Church News • Hopi • Football • Desert Bot n n n r r r rden • Arcadia High • People • Phoenix Zo o .
