By Kaley Kalil Myron and Gloria McKenzie have lived in Arcadia for 27 years, where they raised their daughter Alycia, 26, and son Zach, 20. Gloria, a librarian for the city of Phoenix, and Myron, who works in scienti fi c sales for Olympus, recently made their fi rst trip to Lake Tahoe, where the states of California and Nevada meet. “We had never been there before and had heard how beautiful it was,” Myron said. They visited the lake in October during the off-season. “There were fewer people and the pace was much slower. It was much easier to get around,” Myron said. They stopped for lunch in King’s Beach at a small restaurant full of old bicycles, toys and other antiques. “We did take a small detour to Squaw Valley to see the Olympic Village and ski resort,” Myron said. “That is a place I would like to go back to for skiing some time.” They also visited Vikingsholm, a castle originally built as a summer home in 1929. Among tall pines and cedar trees at the head of Emerald Bay on the California side, it was here that Myron and Gloria read about the lake and saw what Myron called “one of the fi nest examples of Scandinavian architecture in the country.” Although they didn’t particularly like the Nevada side of the lake with all of its casinos, they did stay at the Harrah’s there for the duration of their trip. “It was reasonably priced and a fair place to stay because it was a casino. But, we would not stay there again,” Myron said. Myron and Gloria fl ew from Phoenix to Reno, and then drove to the lake. “On our way back to Reno, we stopped in Carson City to look around,” Myron Continued on page 25 Neil Germundson Toyota Fleet Manager NeilG@RightToyota.com 7701 E.
