Page 16 March 2012 doesn’t deserve being put to rest if she’s killing innocent kids. The term “scary” is a loose term, and could be used to describe being chased by a bull as easily as it can explain when someone sneaks up behind their friend and shouts, “Boo!” There are different ways to frighten someone, and a truly scary movie should incorporate at least a few of them to get a reaction from the audience. However, this fi lm sticks with the over- used scenes in which a character looks out a window and there’s something or, Heaven forbid!, some one outside, but when they look away and then back, it’s gone. In regards to acting, the characters in this movie have too small of parts for the actors to be properly judged. There is, of course, Daniel Radcliffe, but besides him the only real reoccurring actor is Ciarán Hinds. He portrays Mr. Daily, the only man who owns a car in his small village. He makes a convincing father-in-mourning who refuses to believe the legend of the child-killing ghost. As for Mr. Radcliffe, kudos for trying to break free from the Harry Potter series, and it was a smart idea to choose a horror fl ick. However, people seem to be struggling with the change and might even wonder why he doesn’t summon his patronus to keep the ghost at bay. So though the audience might jump or shout in surprise, there is no lasting effect from the fi lm and most will probably describe it as, “that movie where Harry Potter’s haunted by a dead woman who kills kids.”Harry Potter and The Woman in Black are only scaring 2 stars out of me.
